Question WM5 free with new X50, right?

My X50 shipped today and I keep reading here that WM5 should ship to me in the coming weeks because of my new purchase, but I have yet to find anything about this on the Dell site or in my order information. Can someone confirm that I'll get WM5 for free when it's released?

The someone you're looking for is in the Dell Customer Care department - unless you get a case number from one of them - anything anyone tells you here is simply conjecture.

Good luck - getting anyone at Dell to commit to when on the Windows Mobile 5 upgrade is extremely hard-to-do.

It's usually "included" with all X50 Axims these days, but it "costs" $50. What you can do instead is cancel the upgrade and save $50 on your new Axim. Especially in Canada it worked for me that way - $349 CDN before tax is not half bad and definitely better than a x51v :)

That is only true in the USA and (possibly) Canada.

It's not true in Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, South America or Antarctica.

Dell more than likely has a database set up of people who purchased an x50 during that particular promotion. They will probably send it to you automatically. They will send it to the address they have on file for you and will notify you by the email address you have on file with them. This is just all a guess mind you. This is how I would do it.

I just got off with support and they indicated that my order will NOT include the complementary upgrade to WM5.

When I was first looking, the upgrade was listed right in the product description on the Home site. Before I could place my order, the product disappeared from the Home site, so I called and they told me to place the order through Small Business. I ordered through Small Business and now realize that the free upgrade was NOT listed in the description, nor does it appear on my order.

When I ordered, the X51 520Mhz was listed at $399 and I got the X50 520Mhz with a 30% off coupon and free next day shipping. I assumed the new X51 wouldn't be discounted for some time. Now I see the X51 at $339 and by the time I now pay for WM5 for my X50, the price will be the same.

The X50 will be going right back to Dell and I've already ordered the X51. Yippee!

Jared
