Anyone done a hard reset on their X51v yet?

One of the things that has kept me wondering about Windows Mobile 5 is...what happens when you do a hard reset? In the past with WM 2003 SE, if you had a very badly behaving program (e.g., any version of AvantGo that didn't come with WM 2003 SE), you could do a hard reset to get back to a known baseline. Is there some kind of partition that contains the OS that is separate from the storage area? If there is no way to "clean out" your ROM if something gets corrupted in there, WM5 could be very troublesome. The only way I see that would work without a separate OS partition is to provide the user some way to re-flash the ROM back to the original state after installation.

I just did a hard reset on my x51v, basically it just reset it to factory default. It didn't retain anything in memory that I had loaded.

Is there some kind of partition that contains the OS files?

Apparently so,
"It didn't retain anything in memory that I had loaded."
Meaning that it killed all of his stuff. All he has left is factory defaults. It's like Hard Restting on X50 but you dont keep your flash.

Exactly! Previously when I did a hard reset on my X50v it would keep what was in BIS. But now when I did the hard reset on my X51v it just reset it like it was fresh out of the box from Dell.

Great news considering the probable instability of new WM5 applications.

Silly question, but I assume anything on a SD card would be kept though?

ah can't find that thread on 'X51V ask me anything thread'

but anyway, maybe someone can help.

Has anyone HAD to do a hard reset on an x51v due to memory corruption/lockups etc?... is it realy for stable thatn 2003se?

as with my x50v I have to Sreset every few hours of use due to memory leaks, ie program memory drops to less tha 1Mb from 25Mb
with ilauncher/pocketweather,pocketbreeze and wisbarAdvance2.
take eveything off, no memory leak, but others say they have no prob, but I want to hear if someone has an x51v with everything loaded up to the eyeballs and still stable?

also wm5.0 have mass storage drivers built in?

Somehow I think loading WM2003 on an x51 is a bad idea because the x51s don't have back-up batteries, meaning you can't switch main batteries.

Heart

I got a sudden hard Reset on my WM5 upgraded X50v. My PIM (calendar, contacts) information are still there, but all of my add-on software loose their settings and entries in Start Program Menus, samething for Today-Plug-ins. They become unusable.

Please have a backup handy (as before!) on your storage card.

WM5/PS - Persistent Storage only helps in case, you drain your power completely. When you recharge your unit, everything seems to go back to normal unstead of a full-hard reset condition. (My speculation, can somebody validate?)

If you plan to sell your unit and try to clear your PIM data. Use a product likes PocketInformant, which has an option to do that.
