Cool looking device! Too bad it's on Verizon - who has $120/month for their overpriced data/phone plan to actually use that thing???

Yep, go to Verizon Wireless and set up a plane with a Treo or similar. Here's how mine broke down:
- America's Choice 900 minutes (most people will want more minutes): $60
- Insurance: $6
- Unlimited text messaging: $10
- Unlimited data usage (as if anyone would use less than 10MB): $45
Total: $121

And that's not counting the 2 or 3 hundred bucks for the phone, the activation fee, taxes, or fees. I'd love to have a 'go anywhere' data phone, but at those prices, I'll stick with bluetooth and wifi.

Yes, Palm Hardware has moved over there, but not the Palm OS. Access (They make the NetFront Browser) got the Palm OS, as well as BeOS a month ago. For more info, check out the link at http://hardware.slashdot.org/article...id=187&tid=190 which has more information.

Who knows what will happen with the software, and if other vendors will continue creating Palm OS based devices. The LiveDrive just came out, but if there's no software to support it any longer, who knows what will happen.

Hey, who knows? Maybe as bad as Palm tends to mess things up, they'll take M$ down WITH them!!!

huh, So how does a treo with WM5 compares with a standard WM PDA like the Axim? What are the pros and cons? The equation just changed here. Whats the price? is it cheaper or more expensive?

What about performance. Now that we got two OS running on the same hardware maybe we could do a head to head comparison?

Funny watching the press conference video.

They're acting like its such a great merger of the minds, when i'm guessing in reality one of those 3 companies (palm, probably) feels suckered into the deal. I can't imagine palm would want to see windows mobile software on their hardware. Part of who palm is, is the software (Palm OS), and when you strip that down all you have is generic hardware - an Xscale or ARM processor, a circuit board, and an SD card slot, just like any other handheld ever made.

Agreed.

However apart from just being generic hardware the design of the Treo mould is what probably attracted MS :) . And it is such a sweet PDA Phone design :approve:.

When it is released for GSM, Im probably getting one barring no horrendous issues with it.

And I wouldnt be surprised if Palm releases a Treo variant with a new Palm OS along with this Windows Mobile version. I doubt that they would sell their soul. Palm OS will probably be around for a few more years(hopefully more; Good to have competition to keep the big guns on their toes)

Yeah - competition is good.

I was always fascinated with Handspring because they always seemed to have cheaper and nicer PDA's, and I was sad to see Palm bought 'em out, I figured they'd kill off all the innovative stuff Handspring stood for. Good to see, in some form, the Treo is still around.
