CrimsonNugget basically repeated what I said in a much more coherent fashion - so you can TRY to do it... but be prepared for any consequences that may come about due to not having drivers for the hardware in the ROM image you used. The reason the XDA-developers people CAN get away with cross-flashing ROMs is because a lot of the PDA phones that are being used are either using the same hardware but with different branding... or use hardware similar enough that the drivers are compatible.
Be careful, however you decide to go about things.
What i want to say is, if it is that easy to make WM6 running on axim, such ROM would be released on aximsite within a week or at least 100 threads were started on this OS hacking project. I believe aximsite has no short of brave yet knowledgeable explorer but given the slim chance of chance of success no one would try that.
I think users here are just reminding the fact friendly that upgrading to WM6 at this moment is a sure fail, at least at this moment, and I agree to that.

Yes, but most people dont want to upgrade as WM6 is pretty much the same as WM5 except it has a few bug fixes and a different theme. Also people like you keep saying it wont upgrade im sorry but have you actually tryed WM6 on your Axim or on an Emulator?

I personally have not, however when 2003 came out, folks tried to update their 2002. When 2003se came out, folks tried it from 2003. When WM5 came out, folks tried it from 2003se. In all cases the Axim was bricked.
However, there is a small group of folks doing upgrades to Linux. They are able to put everything together and install it as would would and regular OS (with many experimental drivers packaged), but even after years of trying, they still have unstable builds...but you know those Linux guys...do it just to do it.
Since you know the consequences, and are aware that this may brick your device Im not going to rag on about it...
Now for the questions. hehe
Do you think that the WM5 drivers will work packeged with WM6? Wouldn't 6 be like a WM5se anyway? Would be interesting to find the base WM5 build, pull the drivers for each device (if possible), then compile a WM6 build for more than one device. hehe
Yeah it should be possible as WM6 is still using the WM5 core but then again the Rom would be pretty big cause of all the drivers. Mmm linux on Axim ill have a look at that! will be slow though unless you got an old linux core. Ive been thinking and im gonna wait a few months to see if there is any news of an update if not i will continue with the universal Rom Id rather have a 1gb of storage on my CF card lol you guys have made me think about it. Me and a m8 where talking about WM6 today microsoft should have called it WM5 SP1 lol as all it has is bug fixes and a nice new theme or even WM5SE. He has a HTC Prophet so he could upgrade to WM6 quite easily. I will try and get round to looking into the rom but currently with college and stuff i havent got much time.
Someone told me that they had suceeded to get WM6 to run on their Axim. I was very doubtful, but when they sent me a "picture of it running on their Axim", my prediction was confirmed. Anyway, here's to the worst photo editing job in the world. I think they must have used paint. :)
Chris pointed out that even funnier, this is the smartphone version of crossbow. Somebody definately did not do their research!
Personally, I've never like the themes that come with any Windows Mobile, so I use wisbar advance 2. Skins everything anyway, so WM6 isn't even an option for me, but Linux....hmmm...maybe in about 3 years after all the research is done and the stable betas come out.
Oh yeah....check on that Linux site to see if the bootloader they have can maybe unbrick some of these axims to load up the default OS...might save a few folks who've bricked them.
haha thats brillant that real yeah haha. He compressed the picture to much aswell! Where did you find that linuxcrazyman?
The person that sent it to me as an attempt to make me think that he had successfully installed wm6 on an axim, and I don't think that s/he would like to be named. I just can't believe that they would do something as stupid as that!

This guy must be 12 or 13 or so. I remember when I had my e335 in 7th grade, I spent a long time looking for an upgrade to WM2003. Toshiba never made the upgrade, and therefore I was never able to find one. In the end, I bit the bullet and just upgraded to the Axim X30 mid.
rumble, if you want WM6 NOW, sell your Axim and buy either an HTC Wizard or HTC Hermes. Those have leaked beta WM6 ROMs that you can use. You could also wait some months and get a device that comes with WM6. Whatever you do, you will not get WM6 working on your axim. I have tried WM6 on my HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125), and it basically is just WM5 with AKU 3.3, a nicer skin, .NET CF 2.0 preloaded and some phone dialer enhancements! AKU 3.3 for WM5 was improvements for converged devices like the internet sharing program, direct push, etc.
WM6 classic is no different then WM5 with .NET CF 2.0 and Windows Live loaded on. It just has a nicer skin.
If Dell will release a WM6 Update than I will get it. But if there will be no Update to WM6 it's also ok because when reading different reports about WM6 there won't be major changes until now.
Also why having problems with someone, who wants to try unconvetional things on his own axim? Perhpaps it will work and then many of you guys want to have this special rom :-)
