Actually, Microsoft doesn't give a fig about unauthorized ROMs unless they're getting their ear bent by the wireless carriers.
Is this your opinion or a fact that you can support with documentation from Microsoft that supports this opinion? If so, please forward the documnation on. We will review it and if it is legitimately from Microsoft, we will happily restore all deleted threads. If, however, you cannot provide any legitimate documentation, we must conclude that this is purely your unsubstantiated opinion.

It was stated in no uncertain terms when Microsoft made the request to XDA-Developers.com to remove their large ROM image archive that the reason the request was being made was due to "feedback from several sources on the software hosted by XDA-developers, including mobile operators with customers requesting support on 'unofficial ROM images,'" this being from their email exchange with XDA-Devs. Previously, though Microsoft had complained about pre-release or unstable ROMs being made available at XDA-Devs, they had allowed the large ROM archive to operate unimpeded for years.

Again, without verifiable documentation from Microsoft, this is all hearsay, opinion, and speculation.

If you're expecting Microsoft to come out and say "Yeah, go ahead and build custom ROMs," you're waiting for Godot. No company in their position would ever say that, because it would introduce vast loads of liability, authorization, and intellectual property issues.
As it stands, though, they have absolutely no reason to care about custom ROM images unless the carriers or another partner is complaining, since it's not like users can build their own device and install Windows Mobile on it. One way or another, Microsoft gets their money for each device sold. For that matter, XDA-Devs has a long history of taking down material if Microsoft complains--if they wanted to supress the unofficial WM6 ROM discussion there, all it would take is an email.
Again, without verifiable documentation from Microsoft, this is all hearsay, opinion, and speculation.
I remember the admin at XDA kept the email with them (M$) hinting that very fact of carrier complains (and their own LGR) to cease the archive in a reply to the cease notice.
For heaven's sake, someone PLEASE close this thread? Seriously, I wonder how many of the people who've noticed 'faster speeds' actually had their speeds improved by the hard reset this involved.
We all know there is an illegal WM6.0 ROM out there. This ROM is not sanctioned by Microsoft or by Dell, so we do not support it and we do not allow discussion of these types of "pirated" ROMs on this forum.
This thread is closed.
