You know, the way this thread is going, it's looking like it's heading for a closing. At this point, nobody's yet delivered a WM6 ROM for the Axim x51v, much less the x50v, and it doesn't look like Dell will be providing us one anytime soon. We'll see by tomorrow if someone else's 'American Dell rep told me' statement pans out, or if it's another bust.

You know, we don't see Piked anymore...

Ok, Ive been looking into WM6 and discovered that you most probably can get it to run as the files "EnterBL" and "GetDeviceData" are exactly the same (Because the Axim is an HTC device made for Dell). Im gonna try updating my X51 when ive checked it through. I know, I know theres a chance of bricking it but still id rather have finally found out if it works or not and Dell aren't going to provide an update.

rumble291, what benefits do you expect with WM6 over WM5 on an X51? Why do you want WM6?

Cause its more stable, Faster, Office 2007, Updates and it looks nice. Its like saying Why do you want to upgrade to XP when 98 does the same and actually it doesnt i cant play BF2 on 98 because the administrator accounts are weird. Vista is good but if Mac ran everything i would choose Mac over Vista.

Isn't that a bit of an apples to oranges comparison? There were several major OS releases from 98 to XP.

Sorry, I'm not convinced. It can't be noticably more stable and/or faster b/c A12 WM5, for the vast majority of X51v users, is vey stable an fast. I don't know anyone that uses Office 2007 at this point, including the 8,000 desktops in my company. As for looks, it may look better but I can do similar things with WM5. The 98 to XP comparison is not valid b/c 98 was not very stable or fast (compared to XP) and WM5 is (compard to WM6). I say a better comparison is XP to Vista. XP being solid and fast, Vista being pretty but unknown. IMHO, at this point there's no valid reason for me to upgrade to WM6, even if Dell released it. If it's better for you, great. :)

As others have said, it's a bad comparison: The WM2003 -> WM5 jump was more like what you'd described, but this is more akin to the XP -> Vista jump, due to similar (but not identical) codebases, and the integration of a lot of features which can be added on later (the Live Search software, for example) and some stuff that currently can't (the new MS BT stack).

At this point, the jury's out on whether it's really improved things or not - it hasn't BROKEN anything in particular, except for some UI quirks, but it hasn't really been the be-all and end-all improvement that Microsoft's claimed it to be, just like the claims they're making about Vista over XP...

"i actully really doubt that it is even possible to get wm6 to work on an x5XX without COMPLETELY rewriting the microcodes."
- wrong

"you cant "hack" the wm6 rom for the axim."
-wrong. it is in the completion stage by our russian friend.

aximbigfan you are WRONG and DOMINATED. praise our russian friends, as we will be seeing wm6 on our devices soon (x50 included).

No, you CAN get WM6 to run on Axim x51v and Football has already DONE IT and several users are beta testing it.

I know a guy with 3 Ph.D.s and he doesn't know sh*t.

What you supposedly know about programming doesn't make you a good programmer.
