WM6 Software?

Barring any discussion of whether one could or should put WM6 on their x51v, what software is designed or optimized to run specifically for WM6?

Any recommendations for must-have software on a newly flashed pda?

Thanks

We don't take kindly to yer kind round here...

That said, I'm in the same boat. So far, almost everything that worked with WM5 works great with WM6. I know WM6 has a couple new capabilities, so I'm also interested in learning what new powers my Axim mysteriously picked up from somewhere...

most of the stuff I use on WM6 is all WM5/6 compatible... and typicall live data centric, it for PPC phone devices.

See MyPDA for apps list

I don't think that _anything_ is designed specifically for WM6 at this point. That's fine, as most of the current market is 2003/WM5 devices.

Unlike the WM2003Se to wm5 Upgrade, there is not a significant change to the core of the OS in the WM5 to WM6 upgrade. As such, virtually all programs will work fine.

This thread brings up the question -- what is Microsoft's position on WM 6 and application portability? Was WM 6 designed to run 100% of programs written for WM 5? It seems portability of WM 2002 /3 apps to run under WM5 has been an issue; I hope this MS tradition is not continued when moving from WM5 --> WM6 --> "Photon" and forward.

I have invested in The 2007 Best of Everything Applications package for my X51v, and if I purchase a WM 6-based PDA or SmartPhone next year, I hope that I can install and run all the WM 5 based apps that came in that great package deal.

Most Pocket PC software will not run on a Smartphone. If you've got a Pocket PC now and you buy a Smartphone, you'll need to purchase new software. It has nothing to do with changing from WM5.0 to WM6.0. Pocket PCs and Smartphones are two separate devices. Software that runs on one will not run on the other.

That wouldn't make much sense from a developer's point of view. They would just love to sell you a new version of all your software everytime you change your handheld.

Hmmm this thread seems to walk a fine line. I think the question would better have been phrased. What software runs best on a WM6 device (whatever that device might be)? If that were the question, then I would answer it as the many before me did. From what I know about WM6, which is honesly not that much, it does not have many apps designed exclusivly for it yet. I would say though, that you should check out some people's myPDA's (especially mine, recently updated it to reflect my current program usage) and pick the software that claims to be designed for Windows Mobile 5.0, that way you are avoiding the old outdated WM2003 WM2003SE stuff.

I don't the details, but I have a few apps that are WM6 specific... only works on WM6 and the WM5 versions are less than reliable on WM6
