Will softwares running under WM5 also run under WM6?

hello everyone, may I ask you a question. I am thinking of upgrading from X51v (WM5) to the iPAQ 211 (WM6). I know that iPAQ runs WM6, so my question is, will my current softwares also be ok in the new OS? Your answer will help me make the purchasing decision. Thanks for helping!

Wm6 is pretty much like a wm5se, so chances are yes.

The bigger problem was between 2003se and wm5. They way things were saved, rom vs ram was changed between these two. But its the same between wm5 and wm6, so if it runs on wm5 it should run on wm6.

I had to upgrade to Wisbar 3, Sprite Backup 6, and I think that is about it. I run about 20 other pieces of software. PocketWeather, Breeze, PocketInformant, AdobeReader, DoubleLauncher, HandyCards, MSS Converter, Password Generator, PhatPad 4.2, Calligrapher 8.4, PhatNotes 5.0, Plan Maker 326, TextMaker 2007, Pocket Quicken 2.5, Resco Audio Recorder 4.01, Opera 8.65, MobiPocket, SkSchema, SKTools, StowawayKeyboard driver, TomTom Navagator 6 and several others are all running well.

So moving from wm5 to wm6 the recorded CF card programs and cab files from wm5 will run without re-recording everything?

TIA

If you had programs that were installed on a cf card, and want to run them on an entirely new wm6 device?

If so, some may work, some may not. Even though installed on the memory card, programs often put some dll files or important registry files on the device's main memory. Although sometimes the software will run fine without these, or restore them when found to be absent, it is best to reinstall all programs when moving to a new device.

Cab files, should work fine. Most cab files ive seen are usually wm5/6, so they should.

I discovered after setting up my new HP the nice little 128MB user space on the machine. When I first set it up I installed all my applications (except Today Plug-ins) on the SD card like on my Ax. I didn't realize that space was there and moved my applications there. Stuff runs OK from the SD card but I noticed a speed increase and better overall stability when running from the built-in storage space.

I wonder if WM6 will become available for the HP (hx2495) sometime soon? I've heard that it's better than WM5 is.

When I was trying out Softick's Card Export II on a loaner Treo 750 with WM6, I couldn't get it to work (but that was months ago). I since got a Treo 750 with WM5 and it works fine. So, there is something that is in WM6 that is a bit different. I check Softick's page yesterday and they say it supports WM6 as well. Maybe someone can clarify it works on WM6?

I switched to wm6 on my Advantage, and so far everything works great. I haven't run into any problems at all.

Running WM5 applications under WM6

I've recently upgraded from a WM5 device to WM6 and finding that not all my software programs run.

PDA Suduko Vsn 3.0 says it requires netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab to be loaded before attempting to run it.

CodeStore which is a great program to store passwords & private info says it requires netcf.all.wce4.armv4.cab to be loaded before running it.

Can anyone suggest why this is? I thought WM6 would have all the latest drivers on it to allow backward compatibility.

Do I have to load both cab files (if I can find them) or can I add only one which will allow these applications to run?

Appreciate your wisdom on this.

Has anyone tried to see if the old HP printer software that worked on 2003SE but not WM5 now works with WM6?
