WM6 replacement for TCPMP

I'm using a Dell x50V (yeah, yeah I know it's time to change) running WM2003SE. I primarily use it for watching DivX movies using TCPMP. I'm thinking of changing to a HP iPAQ 212 which runs WM6 Standard. Just wondering what media player I should be using. Here are my requirements:

1. Play DivX videos (using the CF slot)
2. Use Laridian Bible software
3. Subtitles support in (1) would be cool.

That's about it... I don't use the PDA for much else. Would WM6 give me any problems?

Hi,

TCPMP works just fine on WM6, if you like it and does what you need it to do, it will do the same on a WM6 pda.

Woot! Good to hear that. However, TCPMP doesn't do subtitling from SRT files. Is there another program that does it easily?

I know this is a dead thread, but for anybody who is looking for some info on subtitling in TCPMP it can, in fact, do subtitles fairly easily. With the latest version (0.81, not 0.72 as many people have) and the right plugins it supports subtitles - but will not work with SRT files. Instead, you simply convert your SRTs to SMI subtitles (I use Subtitle Workshop to do it) and then you can run subtitled content no problem by dumping the video and SMI file into the same folder.

Additionally, if you have an advanced container format with soft subs muxed into it (such as ogg or mkv) then using a program like virtualdub (virtualdubmod, in my case) you can pull the subtitles from one of these files and then convert using Subtitle Workshop to play these in TCPMP as well. The version of TCPMP I mentioned handles mkv's and ogg files quite well, and can even support h264 playback with a fast pda given the right codecs. They may be difficult to track down though, but I leave that as an exercise to the reader ;)

9o% of the time I watch a movie it's on a PC. I encode all of my movies for this purpose. There is absolutely no way I am going to re address them in order to make them display subs on the ppc. Core player is supposed to be adding subtitle support some time in the "near future". They also say they will add ac3 support. That will be a happy day.
