Removing Password Protection

I have a T-Mobile Wing (HTC Herald??) and my former employer's exchange server required that Password Protection be active for me to access my email via the phone.

Now that I am no longer employed there, I would like to turn off the password protection but I am unable to.

I have deleted all the security certificates for my employer. I am unable to un-check the "Prompt if device is unused" checkbox. I have tried deleting the password and nothing seems to be working.

Any advice on how I can turn this off?

Thanks!

A hard reset should remove the password (and any data on the device)
