When released, what will be the cost?
When it is released, how much will it cost? (assuming that Dell does not pass it down to Axim users...

O/S releases for the PPC platform are not like O/S releases for the PC platform where users can simply buy the new O/S and install it on their PC. Operating systems for PPC are inherently tied to specific devices. Not to say future O/S releases won't be more PC like where they may allow the user to buy & install on their own, but WM6.0 is still based on the Win CE5 kernal and I don't believe there will the ability for consumers to simply go out and buy the O/S.

I think that the OEMs might have to pay a little more than what they payed for wm5

They should if Dell release PDAs with WM6 surely some1 will hack the ROM and make it avaliable on our Axims. It would be nice if they did make an update for us! Windows should really start making ROMs that are universal for all PDAs they do it on Windows XP, Vista etc.

Don't forget what a mess wm5 was when it came out. It took many months to get it to work correctly. This forum was full of freaked out people who were steaming mad over all the wm5 problems and issues. Now that wm5 is finally just working fine, wm6 is about to be introduced. Be cautious, don't be a guinea pig.

Sorry to be ignorent here, but if WM is tied to specific devices by drivers and whatnot, how is it that some people have WM 6 running on their treos? Did they custom code the drivers or something?

There's a prerelease version that someone leaked onto the internet. People probably found a way to flash the rom image into their phone's rom chip. If you want to put it on your axim, you can download the rom (it's inside a rar file, use Winrar or an equivalent to extract the rom image) and flash it into the rom chip using the rom flashing tutorial that's somewhere on Axim site. Before you do that, dump the current rom on your axim using the rom dumping tutorial (also somewhere on Axim site) just incase something should go wrong. This should only be be attempted on a X50 (or newer axim). Be warned, some of the functions of the final version are missing from the prerelease version. If you still want to go through with it, by all means do and report back to us what works and what doesn't. I'll get back to you with the url for the rom, but it's a slow download.

edit: The site is in Russian. To download the rom, you have to type in 4 numbers that are in a picture and click a button. The site is http://www.hotfile.ru/36149

That's useful to know, but the original price was in pounds, not euros....

UK£ 27.86 = 54.31307 U.S. dollars

Check ebay, you can get it for £25...
