I hope this gets stickied because there wont be any Windows Mobile 6 upgrades from Dell. I don't mind repeating that fact but it has to stop eventually.

Keep in mind it doesn't mean you're down and out, as there are many applications straight from the horse's mouth to apply to your Windows Mobile 5 X51v unit, without tampering with the rom. You can come very close to having most if not all of the casual user looks, features and applications of Windows Mobile 6.

This is actually pretty easy to manage given that all of what I list below are user installable applications.
Obviously there are some things that aren't covered but for the most part I have compiled all that I know is good, into this guide. To avoid missing credit due, I have links to the posts of the person whom posted the file.

I have also added some 3rd party apps into the mix to satisfy some of the gaps.

Excellent guide Noiro. What a great idea to compile something like this. I think most people don't realize just what kind of functionality they can gain through 3rd party apps like these. I hope this helps quite the throng of people demanding WM6 from Dell.

Hmm I have some tweaker apps for this too.
I'll post them once I find out where I got them from.

One of them makes the search bar in WLM activate Google instead of Live.com's Search.

Is there anyway to change the system icons? I was able to change my spv c600's icons with wm6 icons just by replacing two dll files. I think it should be possible also to do the same to x51v. Can anyone upload the dll files?

Yes you can change the system apps icons, but its not as easy as overwriting the dll's.
Example: the location of the original icon could be....
"\Windows\shell.dll -1004"

and the location of the desired icon WON'T be in that exact spot:
"\Windows\shell.dll -8000"

UNLESS...... someone puts the icons in the EXACT spot.

I'm seriously thinking about making a .dll to change the icons, and hacking into the registry, and change where the apps look for the icons, to that dll.

I would trade all of the new Mobile Windows 6-esq bobbles for the simple ability to reliably connect and synchronize what I already have. But it is apparently not to be.
