I've been using Acrobat 2.0 for Windows Mobile, and while it gets the job done, it's very primitive. It's 5 year old software, an I can't believe there isn't anything better by now.

Is there anything better out there? I've try Clearvue which came with with HX4700, and I've tried Foxit I think, but are inferior Acrobat 2.0.

Any other suggestions?

Perhaps you could expound on what you want in a PDF reader...what about Adobe Reader 2.0 for Windows Mobile makes you consider it primitive (other than the fact is has not been updated in a while).

PocketXPDF is another one you can try.

Whats wrong with old software besides a lack of features?
AIM is the oldest one on my device, its from 2000.

I really like Foxit Reader for both Windows and Windows Mobile. In the free version, it can get a bit annoying with the ad banner at the top but I really like it.

PocketXPDF is nice but doesn't render some files and I really like the fast zooming with Foxit. I may plunk down the money for it some day.

OK, your questions are fair enough Julie

1) reflow mode works poorly or not at all with many documents. After all these years, there must be a better way to do this.

2) lack of true VGA support. Acrobat 2.0 mobile can be used in true VGA using ozVGA etc, and the text reading is fine, but many of the interface buttons are so tiny they can barely be seen, and a couple can't be used at all.

3) File menu (for opening documents) is very unwieldly. For some reasons, if I click on a .pdf, Adobe gives me an error, and "file can't be found", UNLESS that file is in My Documents on the iPAQ. Then it opens it just fine.


4) It chokes on large files (i have the 128 meg upgrade on my iPAQ 4700)

Is there anything that will automatically flow a pdf to fit the screen, or does that only work if the file has tags inserted. Scrolling around the screen could be annoying otherwise...

Don't know if it is legal, but at xda-developers - Xda-developers there is a thread with Software from the HTC Diamond. There you can find Acrobat Reader 2.5, which has a nice file dialog and runs very well under VGA.

thanks for the foxit tip. i got rid of acrobat on the laptop and use foxit now.. boy is it quicker.....its on the ipaq now too as the cooked roms dont have acrobat.. what a shame..lol

I have tried this out, and it really works very well! It does reflow even on files that are not tagged. It is inferior to Acrobat 2.0 in only one way - there is no way set it up so tapping on the screen advances to the next page, so you have to use the scroll bar. Also, it does not work with 2003SE.

Still, this has permitted me to read files that previously were unreadable on my beloved HX4700. Thanks for the excellent tip, Horgel!
