Need info on Palm Treo 700 Phone/PDA
I have been using the Axim X5 for the past 3 years, and it has worked fine. At the same time, I have been using a motorola flip phone with verizon service.

I am currently looking at the Treo 700 phone with the microsoft software and active synch. Does anyone have knowledge as to how good this is in combining pda use with a phone.....I am getting tired of carrying two things around (phone & axim). Also, can you keep your current e-mail address with this new Treo 700?

Any input is appreciated.

Dan

I have a Treo 650 and it's great. The 700w has the 650's great from factor plus Windows Mobile 5 (for better or worse) and those super-fast data rates.

The 700w is awsome, but not as good as the x50v on the PDA part, but it has a cell phone, and EVDO support. The voice quality is pretty good in my area.

I have a 650 and I hate it. It is the worst sounding phone I ever ever ever had. You have been warned.

I left my axim and samsung i600 behind a few months ago and haven't regretted it one bit. I didn't get a Treo (don't like the qwerty boards)) but i got the Samsung i700. It is the predacessor to the i730 and soon to be i830. I have to say I miss the screen quality and the abilty to overclock at nearly 1ghz but I have gotten used to the 472 processor speed and slightly lacking resolution. I also miss the CF slot. But, I throw in an SDIO wifi card to get free broadband and the phone quality is as good as anything else I've had. I have also loaded TCMP Core player and have viewed movies and listened to mp3's just like on the trusty Axim.
I know you are asking about the Treo, and from my friends that have the 700w..they love it too. It's got Palm hardware (notoriously good) and windows software (notoriously good...when it works). It's all worth it to get two devices into one. The debate i guess is now aimed at what will Palm's hardware suuport be in the coming months if Palm goes the way of Apple in the late 80's-Mid 90's as is currently being rumored.

My vote for you: Get it or the new Samsung. The best move you'll make!

I have used both the Treo 650 (YUK) and the 700w, they are both fast and do the job. They are not MULTIMEDIA POWERHOUSE PDAs, they are phones with PDA functionality. The Treo 650 is nice, but I cant stand the Palm OS. (ps. I am using it now as a test started today)
