Cingular 8125 Issues
Hi, used to be an axim x5 ownder and recently got a Cingular 8125 to replace it and my phone. I have tried looking for a soultion to my problem on other sites, but this one is just hte most organized.
Ok, I recently tried installing a bunch of programs through activesync, except my 8125 wasn't connected. No big deal, activesync says it will install the programs on the next sync. When i go to sync my device, everything is good, until I look on my pda and it simply states the installations failed. I tried installing them one by one through activesync with the 8125 connected, and it still won't install. Not even cab files install anymore. I looked at "Remove Programs" on the pda, and nothing is listed anymore. The programs I had installed previously such as opera and agile still work. Oh, I also can no longer sync as the device. I am now seen only as a guest. Any suggestions as to what to do? I really don't want to do a hard reset because I don't have all my contacts backed up and I don't want to have to reconfigure everything from scratch again. Please help.

I have an 8125 as well, and have not seen any issues like this. Now, for me, everything syncs up except the Calendar, which is stuck at "0/109" and never moves. It just eventually craps out.

I'm sorry I can't help you with your issue, however.

Have you tried a [gulp] hard reset?

Do you have a backup program. Can you move (or directly download) the cab files for spb backup or sprite backup? If so backup it up and then, do the hard reset. See if you can restore without the problem.

I had to do a hard reset. I couldn't even install cab files. However, since I used to install all my programs on the SD card for my Axim X5, i was able to copy the Total Commander executable file onto the mini SD card and run it on the 8125. I took a guess and backed up the "pim.vol" file that is in the root of the device, and after hard resetting, restored the file and did a soft reset and now all my contacts are back just as before. I ended up only having to reinstall the programs I had installed earlier, so nothing important was lost.

Activesync suggestion
Have you tried deleting your activesync connection on your 8125 under Menu, Options? When you sync again, it will prompt you to set up a new account. You might have to delete it on your PC too, if it doesn't ask you.

from everything I've read on the internet about this phone (mainly howard forums- a GREAT resource) as soon as you get the 8125 out of the box, boot it up and hard reset it. for some reason this makes it a lot more stable. I personally didn't hard reset it until about an hour or two after booting it up for the first time, I was VERY disappointed with it for those 2 hrs, but after the reset and since, its my favorite pocket pc device to date.

(I'm typing this on my 8125 )

Yes, it is an awesome device, and so far I've installed a ton of programs without any problems. And yes, I did try deleting the partnerships on the pocketpc and the computer, and even reinstalled activesync a few times.

I am picking one up on Monday but the Axim x51V keeps looking better to me.

I need to access my Office files and email on the road along with wifi. Does the screen look good enough to you to pull up spreadsheets?

Thanks1

It's about $80/month for both voice and data. That's using unlimted data and 450minutes of voice.

you don't have to sign up for the $40/month PDA data.. you can get the $20 MediaNet Unlimited and it works perfectly... so that plus however many minutes you want = not bad at all

Regarding using MediaNet, I was told to 2 representatives from Cingular that if I were to use the 8125 and only sign up for MediaNet, that eventually Cingular will somehow figure this out and charge for your the PDA Connect plan usage. I took my chances and bluntly asked, "how would Cingular know, on your end all you see is data being relayed?" Then the Rep told me something about the fact that the MediaNet is for WAP browsers and since the 8125 uses a full version of internet explorer I would need to get the PDA Connect plan that of course is double the cost for the unlimited plan.

sorry for going off topic.

Wow. I just got my T-Mobile MDA (also a K-Jam) and I am also paying $80 per month BUT I am getting unlimited data and 1000 minutes/month ($50 talk + $30 unlimited data).

I agree, its a great device. Coming from an x50v, I was worried about screen size and resolution, but it looks great to me. Not quite as sharp, but more than made up for by better contrast and much deeper color.

Ok, I should change my name "TMI". I bought the 8125 and had to go to HTC to upload the new ROM. The 1g mini SD helped a bunch. I was told 2g is better (ofcourse). I purchsed it in 6/06. I love my Axim X50V but wanted the PDA in a phone and purchased the 8125. I dont want to give up my Axim so am trying to find away to keep it in sync with my laptop at home and my desktop at work. Yes all 4 devices sync'd! When I got my 8125 I had to reload activesync (4.2) on my laptop. This new version only allows 1 partner! Now I cant sync my Axim to the laptop. I know both units are bluetooth and infared. Can they be sync that way. If so can you help?

Matt
