I can only hope Apple inc. takes the cellphone playing field the same way they took the Music market, and even their Macbooks now.
This is a beautiful and amazing phone, nothing like it!
But just like when I bought my first iPod, it is the caution of...is jobs going to throw a great new update in a year that cost the same but is exponentially greater.
It is great marketing, he has had two years to plan it.

Maybe it is worth it and as of now I would run out and get one if they were avaiable, but after I bought my ibook and the Macbooks came out a few months later (I knew but I prefer the steadfastness of a last in the line laptop versus practically beta newbie)(Maybe the iPhone will be like that, first year quirky then it will go about three four years and get a total revolutionizing)(Actually you could look at it as the iPod being evolved into this because if you haven't noticed many of the features of the iPod added up to this slowly.)
Where was I?
Ah, yes but with my iPod I bought the first gen nano months after it came out almost buying an outdated mini which would have been dreadfull.

Will Apple still sell iPods?Just curious!
I am even more curious to find out what the iPhone could possibly evolve into?
Genius!

Hey I admited to the many gruesome and barbaric ways my Axim has been used since I have lost sight of the Windows Mobile Goal.

Speaking of that, what do you think Microsoft will do to respond?
UMPC's are mostly a flop of an idea and the Zune practically crashed.

They need a comeback or all they will have is Vista(failure).

Microsoft is nevertheless known more as a software company than a hardware company I mean go to the WM site ( http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx ) which is the only thing I can compare the iPhone to from a MS perspective, see any MS branded products?

P.S on that, I just got to think, you know how on the WM site there is browse and buy http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...e/default.mspx well quite a few of them go to the Cingular site... will iPhone be marketed/sold on Cingular's site also? Can you imagine someone going to Windows Mobile and ending up on Cingular's site planing to buy a WM5 device and..seeing the iPhone and telling themselves wow that's a nice device

At first glance, the new phone looks a little like an axim. It is a beautiful piece of work.

Yeah and looking at all the ref to other devices its obvious that Apple has been checking out the competitor devices quite intensly, whereby the x51v I am sure was on the list! X5v is considered the king of PDAs for now!

On that note not too long ago it hit me how similair (from design texture/color point of view) the two devices I carry now are, or what do you think?

The battery life on this device might be an issue for some (5 hours talk time). I think I would miss having a stylus for drawing or handwriting on the screen. The touch qwerty keyboard also seems awkward.

5hrs of taTALK TIME is not bad! Taking into account many laptops does only 2-3hrs with wifi! How long can you do wifi on your Dell?

On the keyboard yes I agree but is it worse than the Axim one?

Taking into account how many extras there are for the iPod, Im sure there will be more than plenty of addons for the iPhone including BT keyboards (which already exsist)

Oh just wondering, how is the touchscreen different than other touchscreen devices, like the axims? Oh iphone would be better if the screen is VGA, although judging from the pictures, I think the screen probably has more than 65k colours, probably wider view angle too.

I don't think the soft qwerty keyboard is awkward. There are soft keyboards like that for ppc devices already and I think they work pretty well.

What's bluetooth v2 with enhanced data rate? Is the rate faster than the standard v.2?

My x51v is jealous of iphone's wireless g

I understand that for this type of device, 5 hours is pretty good, but many cellphone users will find this a big change. I see this attracting many people who are new to the smartphone/ pda realm.

Input method Multi-touch

Screen resolution 320 by 480 at 160 ppi

http://www.apple.com/iphone/technology/specs.html

To see how this 'multi touch' is different check out the videos:

that wireless charging... it's not like you can carry your phone around while it's being charged... you're still charging it in a sense.

oh so v2. with EDR is just v2.

i always wonder how hard it is for dell to put v.2 and wireless g on the x51v >=( Those things are not that new

I know and that particular article was old, CES 2007 is showing a number of new such charges, my point is since alot of ppl use their iPod in cars or at a computer/dock station to listen to music it can also be charged during such periods. I dont think 5hour talk time is all too bad, thats TALK TIME not standby..also 5hr straight talk time is not the same as 30min+30min+3min (to a total of 5hrs) when you use it once in a while then it will be typically more than 5hrs.

Beautiful and technologically advanced, but I can't really see what's _new_ with it. They've forced a lot of goodies into one beautiful package, but I'm waiting for the _new_ stuff that hopefully will pop up when the competition starts.
I've already got a pda and a phone.
If Dell released the h/w specs for the X51V and the linux community made an effort I'd have a _really_ _really_ good pda and a phone. (HINT HINT)

I am confused if you don't see anything new with it what are you calling "technologically advanced"
