Well, I was a die hard x50v user and I was looking to get something like the x50v with a phone but most of the industry talk is that it would never happen - too much power, too expensive. I also thought I would never move from a VGA screen.

I have checked out the market and nothing interested me - especially not the Q (although the Blackjack had some nice features) - I figured that I still wanted a touch screen.

I have had my HTC P4000 for 11 days now and I have to say that it is amazing. The deal in Canada is $199 on a 3-yr plan with data (higher costs if no data or <3yr). The rep at Telus was a little irked when he tried to sell me a Case, screen protector, headphones, etc and I said they were all in the box. He looked at his mgr like "where do I make my commission?!"

I have been using it a lot. When I got my x50v, I used it so much the first few days that I ran the battery down everyday. Certainly using the wi-fi for any length of time killed it. But with the P4000, I have not dipped below 60%!

I much prefer how the network connections work on this unit compared to the x50v. If I have an EVDO data connection for e-mail and IE and then turn off the machine, everything goes into suspend and only take a few seconds to be active again after turning it back on.

The screen it really impressive considering it is only QVGA and despite being a 400MHz (vs 624 for dell), it flies quite well. The only slowness is in firing up the camera app.

Unless you want a separate cell phone or simply need the bigger screen/processor, there is no reason not to get this as it does so much more.

I am using the EVDO network alot for now because Telus give 3-months free data to try it out but I will not be able to surf as much as I am because it is much more expensive here than in the US for data plans.

A GMS version should be out shortly in Canada on Rogers network.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback... I am really, really tempted to go for it.

My X30 is three years old, and my phone contract expired a year and a half ago. I think I'm going to see what Telus will do for me...

I know it's supposed to be $200 with the three year contract, but, I want to keep my old phone as well. I've been getting some promo stuff that says I could get two new phones free if I sign up for a family plan, so I'm hoping they'll give me a bit of deal somewhere if I keep my old phone and buy a HTC4000 and still sign up for the two-phone plan... the worst they can do is say "not a chance"

Is that not the HTC Hermes/Titan? Do a search for reviews of the Cingular 8525 ... I think you'll find a lot of them. I know a couple people with them and love em.

I got my HTC P4000 last week and love it. I had a Moto Q and and X51v, and I found myself still carrying both (mainly due to WM smartphone edition being a joke).

The HTC isn't as powerfull as the Axim and I liked the keyboard better on the Q (maybe I just need practice), but this device is a great all-in-one unit.

You wouldn't want it any smaller due to screen size, although a bit thinner would be nice. The thickness is likely due to the battery, cause this thing last a full days work easy (I've on all weekend, lots of wifi, some calls, reading ebooks, and I'm still at 50%. It's actually smaller than my Q and pretty much the same thickness if I used the extended battery on the Q (which I always did). It's actually not much bigger than most new phones.

Due to the size, a QVGA screen is fine. Navigation and buttons are well located. It only has a micro-SD card slot, so I had to buy one of those - which means I'll sell the other cards with my Axim and Q. Yep, this device does what I need, so I am selling both (I'll have selling posts up soon but PM me if you're interested in either).

No brainer if you want a phone and a pda
Hi Noisy Crow,

I sold my x51v because I wanted a convergent device. The P4000 is great. While not the powerhouse pda like the x51v, it's fine for me.

Check out howards's forums: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1135369

to see what other folks are saying.

Good luck with your decision,
Craig

The headset doesn't work well when there is background noise. Also, will not connect to the Jawbone Bluetooth handsfree unit. Had to spend another $150 at Telus to get the nXZEN handsfree which was a little exorbitant considering what I had already spent on the P4000 (the poor headset is a bad design in my opinion, even with the windows closed in the car it is simply impossible for others to hear what I am saying no matter how loudly I speak)

I have been using the Sprint Mogul vers of that divice.... It can do almost every thing that my x50v can do. (x50v is much better for watching video)

I have not used my x50v since I got it.... I am very impressed with it.
