Verizon XV6800 from X50v
i have an X50v, that to be honest, i haven't used much... now i see the Verizon XV6800, which looks perfect for me... but what can expect in these areas:

x50v running 2003se... WM5 was horrible... how is WM6?
how is RAM?
can i install all my old apps, like Core media player? today screen apps?
how does the mini-sd cards work? (performance wise)
how is Active Sync with it?
when taking pics or movies, can they be directed to a mini SD card?
can the phone be turned off, and just use the PPC?
WiFi- how good or bad is it?

thanks for anyone's help...

I have a HTC 7501 WM6 professional and run all the old apps from
my Ax51v.
The minisd run well and no complaints about speed it's formatted
in 32 bit.
You have to run Activesync 4.5 for WM6 I don't know about the 6800
but my 7501 runs with the phone off and is fully directory
programmable,WM6 wifi is different then WM5 in that it,s
runs more automatically, the one thing different is that on the Ax51v
I had to set wifi to WORK setting while on the 7501 it only
connects when set to INTERNET.
There are probably more insightfull answers on MobilitySite or
some of the other phone forums.

I own a X51V and an XV6800. To be blunt, I do not like the PDA/phone integration. It is incredibly clunky. To answer your questions:
  • x50v running 2003se... WM5 was horrible... how is WM6? To me, WM6 is similar to WM5. It still requires 3rd party applications to be usable.
  • how is RAM? With Pocket Breeze, iLauncher, Pocket Weather and WisBar installed, I have 21.5 MB of free RAM. The PDA functions fine. The flash pool is more than enough for the average user.
  • can i install all my old apps, like Core media player? today screen apps? I haven't had an app that is incompatible with the WM6. My phone is loaded... Can't speak about core media player though.
  • how does the mini-sd cards work? (performance wise). Works fine. I have a 2GB card and it's performance is acceptable. I can measure the I/O speed if you want.
  • how is Active Sync with it? An accasional sync error, but performance is no different than with my X51V or hx4705.
  • when taking pics or movies, can they be directed to a mini SD card? Yes. I've found the pictures to be substandard for a 2MP camera. Lighting is typically off and the pictures are a bit blurry.
  • can the phone be turned off, and just use the PPC? Yes. WiFi/bluetooth also works with the phone turned off.
  • WiFi- how good or bad is it? About the same as my X51V.

Hope this helped.

Cool I have been thinking about getting a XV6800 too so I won't have to carry a phone and PDA. So the only reason you do not like it is because it is too bulky? I still haven't had a chance to check it out. I am hoping Verizon releases a newer QWERTY WM6.1 Pro smartphone this spring.

Can you receive email instantly? Is that extra? I will be using a hotmail account. Or do you usually set outlook to connect at a certain time (like every 15 minutes)?

The reason I don't like it is because it is too clunky with respect to phone/PDA integration. The physical size is fine. Even with third party apps -- like PocketBreeze, iLauncher, WisBar, etc. the phone is still not streamilined for the business professional. So......I returned mine last night and got a Blackberry 8830. My phone is now a phone instead of a clumsy PDA with voice capability. ...and I'll put my X51V back in my pocket.

I have an Axim X51v and just got the Verizon xv6800. I'm very pleased with the fact that I only have to carry 1 device with me. The 6800 IS clunky because of the slideout keyboard. I never use it, and would have preferred a lighter, thinner pda phone without the keyboard.

The PDA works just like any normal PDA, except for the fact that Verizon has crippled the Bluetooth functionality. I can use BT to sync, for stereo headphones, and also for hands-free, but my BT keyboard and mouse won't work on it, and my Garmin GPS 10 probably won't, either.

There are websites that have lots of patches for various "annoyances" that Verizon has put on this phone. One of the patches allows the xv6800 to fully recognize an 8 GB memory card. I'm hoping that they'll create a BT patch, too.

I would love it if my Axim were a pda phone!
