Update: Audiovox SMT5600 @ Cingular.com
Update 6th May:
For those who have been watching/waiting for this phone...
I just saw the website at Cingular' site...it is $200 after rebates w/ 2 year contract...I am still watching to see if Amazon will carry it and their deal's are usually better...

In anycase, watch for the caveats about this phone that some have posted in this thread

---------------------------------
I have been researching on getting a replacement for my nokia 3650 and the SMT5600 seems to be a real solid phone. Any users out there? Comments on your experience and set up would be great...also it seems AT+T used to have it but now that they have merged w/ Cingular, its currently not available...
thanks in advance...!

I have it, and I love it. It is an amazing phone. I have been using MS Smartphones for about 1 1/2 years now, and have tried almost every one made. The SMT5600 is by far the best. And the features of it are great. Cingular is supposed to be releasing it with their service soon, but if you can't wait ebay has them, and you could get it unlocked at www.imei-check.co.uk to use with any service you want.

I agree with smeg36. I have the Orange SPV-C500 which is virtually the same phone as the SMT5600. It is an awesome phone. I got it unlocked and I am using it on the Cingular service now. No problems whatsoever and I am able to use all of the features.

I have the 5600 and I think it's good for what it does. It is not a replacement for my PDA but has close to full function Outlook calendar and cool little apps for weather updating.

I also have Mapopolis on it to search for directions. This works great but takes a little longer to process requests compared to my X3.

I would be very careful in getting an unlocked version b/c I've read posts on other websites that you lose some functionality (mostly internet access) if you use an unlocked phone on Cingular. I have the AT&T version right now.

I got mine locked on ebay(AT&T) and used the unlock that smeg36 mentioned. I was able to remove all the AT&T,mMode from the phone and replace with T-Mobile branding. No problem for internet/SMS or e-mail. I did spend alot of time @ Modaco and Howard Forums figuring it all out though.

To be prudent you want to investigate if the unlocked phone is being used with a certain service before you commit. Expect some of the functionality to not work on an unlocked phone that is not currently supported by the network. But again if you do your homework you can figure out how to make the functions work regardless what network you are on. I am very happy with my unlocked Orange phone on Cingular. I do agree that it is not a full time replacement for my PPC.

I also have Mapopolis loaded on my phone and I use it with my BT GPS with no problems. Expect it to not be as fast as your PPC since the phone only has a 200MHz processor. However it still runs great.

Whitely, why did you get the C500 for use in the USA? Do you travel overseas and need the 900Mhz band or something? I just find it odd as the SMT5600 can be found cheaper and easier than the C500, and some of Cingular/AT&T areas use the 850Mhz band, which the C500 doesn't have.

To be honest the phone was a free gift to me. I did not have a smartphone and I was excited about the prospect of owning one. The only thing I had to do was light it up. So only coming out with ~$35 activation was not bad for me. Cingular warned me that all of the functions may not work correctly on their network but the basic functions would work. At the time I didn't care so I took the plunge. Out the box a few of the functions did not work such as GPRS. After spending some time at Modaco and Howard Forums I got all of my functions to work. In short, if I had to buy the phone I would have went with the SMT5600. But all and all both are the same except for the difference in the WMP versions.

I've also tried finding a car charger. Everyone on different boards says the Motorola MpX (not sure of the number) will work. I went to a Cingular store and although the dongle fits, it will not charge. If anyone has found a car charger, I would like to know where to get one.

Yeah, the MPx200 car charger definitly doesn't work with the SMT5600. At least not with mine either. I think there are some car chargers on ebay that are specifically for the SMT5600. As for accessories, I have found ebay to be the best, and cheapest, source. You could also look online for C500 accessories, as the phones are physically identical they will work.

Sorry, to bring back a week-old thread, but I've been looking into getting a new phone to compliment my x50v. Have any of you folks used a Nokia smartphone, (ie. 6600, 7610, etc?) How do the Symbian OS and the WM Smartphone OS compare? Any connectivity issues with your Axim?

I would compare the Symbian OS vs. WM Smartphone OS to Palm vs. Pocket PC. The most basic features that are included in even the cheapest WM Smartphone are only available in the most expensive Symbian's. Maybe I am biased though because I have had a Smartphone for about two years, and only had a Symbian for 6 months before that.

The phone is awesome, and the WMP10 is great to. the headphones supplied w/ purchase are lame though. I use my regular mp3 head phones.
