Help! Help! Help! ASAP
I purchased a PalmOne Wi-Fi card on the advice of a friend that this would work in my Dell X3. When I received the software, the CD stated it will only work for a Palm or Tungsten. I have to leave on Friday night for an extended stay and need to have the Wi-Fi up and running by tomorrow.

Does anyone have an idea where or how I can obtain the drivers for this Wi-Fi card?

Your immediate help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ton y

Does your friend have any more advice on HOW this is supposed to work in a PPC? I'm sure it's a rebranded product that could very well work on a ppc given the right drivers, maybe even sandisk.

If it is an actual PalmOne card I hate to say it but I think you are screwed.

If I were you I would take it back and get one made for a Pocket PC.

No. The impression I have is that he heard it from someone else. I just sent an email to a seller on eBay and he too states it should work.

I am presently on the Dell site, looking for answers.

I am tempted to just run the Palm software to see what happens. The worst is I get to reinstall my data. THe bright side is I get to see if it will or will not work.

Thanks

Tony

Also when I ordered the card, I held the Dell in front of the counter clerk adn told him I wanted a Wi-Fi card for this device to insure there were no mistakes. Maybe I should have thunb tacked it to his forehead.

From PalmOne's website
Quote:
Q: Can I use the Wi-Fi Card by Palm with any other devices?
A: No. As of May 2005, this accessory is compatible with Tungsten E2, T5, T3 and Zire 72 handhelds only. Future handhelds may be compatible with this accessory; check www.Palm.com for availability. It is not compatible with any Treo smartphone.
I really doubt that anything has changed since May. The info I could find suggests it is the same hardware as the Sandisk sdio card but probably uses different firmware so it's unlikely their drivers will work. Still, that's probably your only chance, so go to Sandisk and give them a try. If you don't have a recent backup, do one before trying the installation so you can get back to your current position easily (getting rid of drivers can sometimes be problematic otherwise).

I just pulled this information from this site in another location.

Will SD WiFi work?
Not on the Axim X5. WiFi SD cards require the SD to be I/O compliant (secure digital input/output) and that feature is not enabled on the X5. The newer Axim models (X3 series, X30 series and X50 series) are SDIO complient. Of course, many of these have integrated WiFi so a WiFi SD card would be superfluous.

Still leaves me in the dark.

Well the drivers show up on the Dell, but nothing is happening. Man, what a bummer, but thanks anyway.
