Cracked the CD for my X3i, Dell doesn’t sell it. Do I need it?
Soon after I received my X3i, I accidentally broke the CD in half. I didn’t worry about it, until recently. A few weeks ago, some creep broke into my office and stole my computer and my X3i cradle.

I need to sync my X3i on my new computer. Technoguy posted this link http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...+Accept+%3E%3E to download Active Sync 3.8.

A new cradle is on its way. In order to sync it, do I need the software CD that came with the X3i or is the download from Microsoft enough?

My new computer is:
Windows XP SP2
Syncing with Outlook 2003

My PDA is:
Dell Axim X3i running
Pocket PC
Version 4.20.0 (Build 13349)
Processor: Intel PXA263
Memory: 63.29 MB

Welcome to Aximsite!

The two most important things on the CD are ActiveSync and Outlook (the rest is mainly demos or limited versions of software). ActiveSync you can get from Microsoft for free, but you are on your own for Outlook. Since you already have Outlook on your desktop, all you need is ActiveSync.

yes... active sync is the only thing needed

i personally never even used the cd...
just downloaded active sync and off i went

Thanks everyone! I purchased a USB to IRDA (free after rebate thanks to Fry's). I downloaded ActiveSync 3.8. I went to ActiveSync>Toools>Connect via IR on the X3i. The partnership was established and I started syncing.

I went IR because I have one bent pin in the bottom connector. I have not tried to sync via the cradle since I bent the pin. I didn't want to spend the money on the cradle/sync cable to find out it won't sync with the bent pin.

helllooo, is there a place where to get the original software for axim x3i, because i got the pda from ebay and didn't came with software, thanks

Welcome to Aximsite!

You can try looking for the software on Ebay as well. If you have Outlook, you really don't need to get the original software CD since ActiveSync is a free download. See post 2 for the link.
