SD slot troubles
Now this trouble doesn't effect the normal internal operations of my ax, but it does effect the physical operations. Now I may or may not have forgotten my ax was in my pocket while at work... But long story short... Now my sd card does not "return" when I push it. I can still get the card out with a little work (fingernail or something to hook it) and i can still read/write and do whatever I need with the card. It just seems the mechanical mechanism is stuck. I'm wondering if it is safe to shoot some compressed air in there. I'd like to take the back cover off cause for one I just love taking things apart and seeing how they work, but this one scares me too much. Any pointers would help. Even a little confidence in me goes a long way.

Maybe it's the SD card that's worn out... I'm note quite sure wherr the eject mechanism catches the card though. However it does it, I wouod imagine that it is part of the socket.

I would skip the compressed air Low pressure won't do much, high pressure might wreck something.

The back comes quite easily if want to root around inside.... pop the battery, extract the rubber feet, remove four screws and carefully pry around the edges...

It's not the SD card. It works in my camera, my brothers ax... Its definately the eject mechanism. I can try taking the back off but i'm gonna wait for a few more ideas. Thanks for the quick reply though and if it comes to it, I'll open it up.

very easy on the compressed air. When you shake the unit do you ear any moving part noise in that area? As Noisy Crow said have you try another card.

Nothing shaky in there. It's just like the mechanism is stuck in the all the way in position.

SD Card reader on X30
I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. My Axim X30 has never had an "ejection mechanism". Is it suppose to?
I just push my SD card to get it in and pull it to get it out.

Unfortunately, my Axim doesn't seem to be reading my SD card anymore. I'm not sure what's wrong. Does anyone have any tips or links (to other posts) on how to get it working? My SD card still reads just fine on my laptop card reader. And it's been fine on my Axim for about 6 months, but just now it stopped working. Previously, if the Axim was turned off, it would automatically turn on when the SD card was inserted. But now it does not. It seems like it's not recognizing that I'm inserting a card.

Thanks,

ApeMan

Silly Solution to SD Reader Problem
Ok, after about 3 weeks of being without it, I finally just accidentally got my SD card reader working again. You guys are going to think this is really stupid, but I will post it just in case someone else had the same problem I did...

For the 7 months that I've been using my Axim, I didn't realize that the SD card slot had an ejection mechanism. I would just push and pull the card with brute force. The problem was, when I first got the Axim, whenever I pushed on the card, nothing would happen because my fingers were too fat to make contact with only the card and not the Axim. I concluded that my Axim didn't have an ejection mechanism because I was never able to get it to work. Also, I've seen other devices that don't have ejection mechanisms, so I didn't think too much of it. The brute force method worked fine for 7 months, but just recently stopped working, probably due to wearing of the metal contacts.

I tried many many different things to try and get the card working again, thinking the cause was some other software or hardware problem. I was giving up hope...

But recently, my finger nails grew out a little bit and I sort of wishfully/accidentally tried using my one of my unusually longer nails to push the card in, just to see what would happen. Wow! The card started popping in and out! And after a few tries, the card was in properly and I could read it no problem! Boy did I feel like an idiot...

But at least I'm a satisfied, relieved idiot.

Enjoy,

ApeMan

P.S. I'm not going to bite my nails anymore
