X3i Backup Battery
Are Dell taking the p*ss?!

My 2day old AXim has had at least 20 hours charging time and yet the backup battery remains "abnormal"

I have read other threads on here where people merely charge again and it works? Not for me!

The battery low warnings every 5 seconds get annoying!

Help!

Welcome to Aximsite!

During the first charge, did you power ON and then quickly power OFF the device? This quick ON-OFF action triggers the charging of the backup battery.

No I didn't, but I wasn't told to in the manuals...

Would it work if I did it now? Or does it have to be the first charge?

Thanks for the welcome, and the reply!

I don't think it's too late to try it now. Is the unit brand new or 2nd hand?

Brand new mate, wouldn't get a second hand one, a second hand phone put me right off that..

I've tried now with 100% main battery, and the light remains orange so I think it may be working!

EDIT: No, it's not. The light just went green, so I had a look and it didn't work. The backup battery says:

The green light tells you how the main battery is doing, not the backup. Try leaving it charging for awhile... *fingers crossed for you*

(You should also be able to check charging status by going to Start - Settings - System tab - Power.)

Yes, I knew that, but I can't check when the device is off! (After doing ON-OFF)

Thanks for all the help, I'm going out now and I'll leave it docked and see what happens.

I'm going to miss her though!

Thanks again!

UPDATE:

I did the ON-OFF trick, and left charging for over 4 hours. Nothing. Battery remains "abnormal"

Got a few questions..

1. Are you sure the ON-OFF trick works?
2. How fast do I need to be when doing ON-OFF?
3. Is there a way of telling whether or not it's going to work, I hate waiting four hours to do EVERYTHING with this thing.
4. Is there a high chance that the backup battery isn't connected, isn't in there or is in need of repair?

Please help me, this is REALLY annoying and I don't want to have to send my new kit away for repair so early.

Did you charge it for the 8 hours, as recommended? Try it again but leave it powered ON, as per these instructions and see if that helps:

http://support.dell.com/support/topi...c=us&cs=&s=gen

If the unit really is new, it's unlikely that it's in need of repair. Hopefully not.

8 hours? *groan* I was unhappy with 4...

Seriously, my laptop takes less work, I'd do better carrying that around!

The instructions are very vague...

Is that power on, or power off? Hmm...

It will take approximately 8 hours to charge a backup battery from 0% to 100%.
In that case, the four hours I gave it SHOULD have given me 50%? Hmm...
