X3 Wifi Connection Problems
I have an X3 with wifi (no BT). I have a G wireless network at home and have setup my wireless router to be B & G enabled, WEP with MAC address filtering.

My X3 can see my home network in the site survey but no matter what I do it will not connect to it. I have tried turning off all security/filtering on the router and it still won't connect.

I have looked at the Wifi FAQ but couldn't find anything in there to assist me with this problem.

I checked Dell's support site last night and downloaded the latest drivers but that hasn't changed anything.

Any ideas greatfully received

have you enterd the MAC of the Axims's wifi card into the wireless router as an allowed device?

Yep indeed. I am truly stumped and I suppose my last resort is phoning Dell and seeing if they will swap it out. Not sure I am within warranty though (as the X3 I have was a swap out anyway).

might be worth trying to see if you can connect your Axim to someone elses WIFI network. also have you tried disabling MAC filtering on the wireless router?

Good point - could pop to my parents to try it out at theirs. IIRC I have turned off MAC filtering before but it's something I could try again this evening. Thanks for your suggestions.

it might also be a good idea to try it with wep disabled as well. make is as easy as possible to get your Axim to connect and then find where the problem is.

Right turned off all WEP/Mac etc and it now connects to my Network but Internet Explorer says page not found and I can't ping my router. The IP address in the WLAN utility is 169.254.xxx.xx - surely if this was on my own network it would be the same as the range used by my router 192.XXX etc?

Any ideas?

169 numbers are self assigned when a device is expecting an IP from a server but does not receive one (in other words, it's not really connecting). When you turned off security on the router, did you also turn it off on the PPC?

There are a lot of suggestions for troubleshooting in the WiFi Guide linked from my signature.

I turned off the security on the router and matched the settings on the PPC, then I turned MAC back on, then I turned WEP back on and re-entered the hexadecimal key. My router isn't showing the PPC as connected in the MAC addressing screen despite having the PPC's MAC address permitted. As you say it's obviously not actually connecting. Will have a gander at the Wifi info and see if anything there works, thanks.

ikehiker is right, your axim does not appear to be getting a ip address from the DHCP server on the router, if your network does not use one you will have to manualy set an ip address or double check the DHCP is working.

Right - it now connects to my home network and is being assigned a local IP but I can't ping my router from the Axim and I can't ping the Axim from the router. I get good connection but IE isn't working? Any ideas?
