Sorry for the delayed answer but I had to get some sleep :-)

My x3i says
Rom version: A00c
Wireless Attendance: Wireless and Bluetooth
but your info seems to be OK.

While I'm NOT connected the signal bar shows varying strength because there's a search going on.
You may go to
settings>connections>dell wlan utility
here the 'channel' number changes under the search process.
The top line says
Client: ready

I'm almost out of ideas, but I recommend you to consult this link

Thanks, i'll read through it when I have time. I have the X30 now so it's not much of an issue since i'm selling the X3i as a non-wifi unit, but thanks for your help.

Thankis. Well, I did see the connectivity menu, but there was no 'flight mode' option. I noticed a flight mode utility on freewareppc.com; could this be a third party utility?
