Hi all,
I've got an X3i and the wifi has *never* worked. I was wondering if this is a known issue with some X3i's or if there's some way to get it working that I just don't know.
Thanks for any help.
Are you sure it's not working? What are you trying to connect to (there are always two sides to a wireless network and the router's configuration is commonly the problem rather than the PPC)?

I'm pretty sure. I don't have a wireless network at home but I was at my brothers house and it couldn't see his and it's never been able to detect any hot spots at places like Starbucks or book stores that I know have them. It seems like it doesn't even detect them; I don't get any bars, or a fraction of one bar, and that's it.
Actually I did buy a wifi usb dongle for home just to see if it could connect and I got nothing, even holding it an inch away. It just doesn't seem to detect anything.
Unfortunately, I have never seen an X3i but I assume Dell included a 'flight mode' in its settings and this may be overriding the hardware switch. Does the light on the antenna blink when you turn on the wireless?

Yes, I get the progress bar and blue light, just no signal ever detected.
Have you ever upgraded the ROM? Or at least a hard reset?
hmm...well yea I ugpraded the rom to A02 but I don't think I ever hard reset; I guess i'll try that. Not that it matters much now as I just bought an X30H from ebay and i'm selling the X3i to a friend of mine with price consideration for the non-working wifi. It would be nice if I could give it to him working though.

Yes
" and this may be overriding the hardware switch."
Yes
Are you saying this could be my problem? I don't see a 'flight mode' setting anywhere, and when I hit the wireless button the progress bar is there and the blue antenna light; doesn't that mean it's 'working'?
"Are you saying this could be my problem?"
No, I simply supply an answer to ikehiker, the Axim Comm Guru :-)
" I don't see a 'flight mode' setting anywhere"
Click on the two arrows at today's top bar - then you should see a menu labled 'Connectivity' and an option saying 'Turn on flight mode'.
If it says 'Turn off flight mode' then you will not be able to communicate via wifi.

Ok?
There is no 'flight mode' there. This is an X3i running WM2003 not 2003SE maybe that has something to do with it? But thanks for your help anyway.

Does the blue light BLINK on the LEFT side of the 'antenna' ?
Please be specific ....
Yes, the light (blue) blinks on the left when I enable wireless, but in the Dell WLAN utility I never see more than a fraction of the first signal bar full, no matter where I am - even an inch away from my usb wifi stick.
