Upgrade ROM with IR, possible?
I am trying to upgrade my X3i rom using infra-red connection because the gold connectors at the bottom of my X3i got damaged.
The download from my pc to X3 only last a few seconds then the Update program shuts down Activesync and tries to continue the download by USB.
Anyone out there who knows how to update rom without using USB?

Many thanks

I have honestly never heard of anyone trying to update their rom using IR. That would seem very hard to me. Sorry that I can't be of help. I don't know if it's possible or not. I don't think it is. Course, I could be wrong.

have you been able to install other programs using IR? I installed an update via IR the other day (dell site R71183.EXE) without any trouble.

since you can connect your Axim to your PC wite Activesync via IR i cant see why you cant upgrade your Rom that way. but i persoanly woudnt, because a single interuption to the rom transfer to your Axim from your PC could screw the whole thing up.

I think its way too dangerous through infrared.
Just copy the IMG file to an SD card, and restart the device with ScrollOK+Contacts+reset and the new rom will install in a few seconds.
(just dont touch your device until it finishes)

I don't think it will work as the IR drivers are re-written during the upgrade

You might be able to do something via the sd card though
