My Built-in-storage died

I had this axim x3i for a year, I bought it from ebay. I didn't have any big problem until three months ago. My dictionary program, Pocketlingo, was installed in BIS and it did not work. saying "Cannot create a file when that file already exists" Well, I tried to fix the problem, but there was no solution. Anway, I tried to re-install that program into the BIS again yesterday but then BIS disappeared. I did soft-reset, hard-reset but it disappeared permanently. The total size of the dictionary program was about 15mb, and it was the only program installed in BIS. Is there any solution? I just spent 7 hours looking for solutions but ended up nowhere. Well, any help will be appreciated.

Welcome to Aximsite!

Try a hard reset (hold down power button while doing a soft reset) but when prompted to continue, cancel.

If that doesn't work i'd try reflashing the firmware, that might format the BIS as well.

I hope the problem was that simple

Thanks for your apply, I thought axim site would send an email to but they didn't and I just waited for a replay. (I am such a newbie) Well I did that and many other ways - like doing hard reset, soft reset, cancelling reset, and throwing my pda on my bed contionusly. Also deleting every pda applcation on my computer and installing them. I tried as "possible" ways I could try... well, thanks anyway.

Where is the firmware

is reflashing the firmware same as reinstalling the firmware? Because I tried to find axim x3 firmware on internet for an hour, but found nothing. Well if you mean "hard drive reset", I think Gigi already suggested it. Well, thanks for your help. Well I guess I am stuck with this PDA Now ... darn.

Inserting and removing an SD card sometimes works. Doing so forces a re-scan of the storage devices.

None of that is going to work. The only way to get a lost Built In Storage back is to format it.

I have lost my built in storage 3 times on my x50v. The only way I could get my flash formated was to install WM5 then downgrade back.

If you already have to latest ROM version of your X3, you might be out of luck.

You could try Softick Card Export, if it allows you to export your Built in Storage you could try having windows format it.

My girlfriend has also lost her built in storage on her Toshiba e755 and has had to learn to just deal with having no built in storage.

Too bad no one makes a simple utility for this common problem.

Well, now a bigger problem occured. I tried to intall a program into my BIS- my PDA became frozen. So I did hard reset (like ten times) and.... now my PDA is slow. For example, when I click on start, it takes about two seconds for it to open up. BIS disappeared and my SD card is not recognized. Now I just want to throw my PDA away. Well, I cannot do that... could you help me?

Did you install any programs after the hard reset? Are you under Dell warranty?

Maybe you could do a ROM upgrade?

I know you were trying to help... I am very disappointed with my pda (not at you). Well, pda is a mandatory device in my education, so I will have to buy a new one soon if I cannot fix the broken one. By any chance, do you know where I could purchase a used pocket pc for cheap price (other than ebay)?
