Occaisionally my X3, in the past, would not read my Sandisk SD cards in which case I would blow on the SD card contacts and also blow in the X3's sd card slot. This would remedy the problem immediately, however this no longer works for my X3 cannot now read my sd cards. My sd cards work in my other pocket pc's and sd card readers so I am sure the issue must be with my axim x3. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanx, Tommy
You might try popping the card in and out and in and out over and over, basically trying to clean off the contacts inside your axim.

Pebu and merkin, thanks for the responses, especailly about the spring mechanism warning. I have taken the x3 apart before so I will give this a try. Thanks again!
My x3i suddenly won't read SD cards either. only got the device last week. stuck a 256mb card in there. working beautifully so i got me a 2gig card. shove that in, shows just fine, 1870mb free - all good. however, since the new card was empty i put the old one back in - and now it won;t show. nor will the new card. there is no "Storage Card' folder listed in explorer, nor the memory settings
both cards work fine in my laptop and digital camera and have been formatted without luck.
Also, are there any ROM updates for this thing? I've checked the Dell site and EVERY update says "NOT for models with both 802.11b AND bluetooth" which is exaclty what mine is. There don't seem to be any any at all for the composite wireless model :(
I just joined the forum. As a matter of fact, the same problem appeared about one year ago for my Axim X3. The problem arised when I played a build-in game and the machine was suddenly getting stuck. After rebooting it, the machine no longer read the SD card (I tested it afterwards and the card can be read by a PDA of the same type). As a result, i'd appreciate it if anybody can help me solve this problem. Thanks.
I think I will go to Best Buy this week to see if I can get a product like these, otherwise I will just send out for one and give it a try. I don't want to use my spare pda solely as an ebook reader, heck I still want it to play videos and music too!
It was acutally after i instered a new 2gig card. the card showed as 1900mb which is fine. btu since it was blank, i put the 256 one back in and now nothing. i dismantled and carefully cleaned inside the slot (i have a lot of experience dismantling and cleaning sensitive products) no luck
might have another go and spray it down ith contact cleaner. without the SD, the unit is pretty much just a glorified notepad - my cellphone has more functionality

Dell has a "downloadeable" servicepack for this problem (and more)
I tried downloading the dell diagnostic for the axim 3 to run it since I did not see any fix for my problem over the dell web site, and what do you know the diagnostic program would not work. Funny thing though after I tried running the diagnositic program the sd card slot was reading my sd card once again after almost 7 months of it not reading. I just don't get it, but I am glad to have my Axim X3 expanded storage back. It has been relegated from an ebook reader once again to an mp3 and movie player.
