Aximsitex5icon Completely non-responsive screen

I recently acquired an Axim X3 (Rev A06) from my father. The screen does not respond to any touch input whatsoever. It boots up to a screen that says "Tap the screen to set up your Pocket PC". I've tried pushing the reset button on the back and removing the battery. I've seen threads about particles stuck on the screen causing problems so I even cleaned it. I went as far as complete disassembly to clean it, but it still does the same thing.

It should be noted that there is a discoloration in the middle of the screen that is slightly smaller than dime size. It looks almost like a small amount of moisture trapped between the LCD layer and touch layer. I don't think it is though, because the spot doesnt shift when I glide over it with the stylus. If anyone can help me identify what I might be dealing with here, I would appreciate it.

I'd prefer something I could do myself. I'd like to get this thing fixed for as little as possible. It's not really worth the $99+shipping to send in somewhere.

I appreciate the help. I found a touchscreen on eBay two days ago for $8 and bought it. Then I decided to wipe the screen down again and wouldn't you know, it started working like a champ. So I guess my problem is solved for now and I have a backup touchscreen handy. lol

Thanks for the responses!
