X3i Standard battery not charging to 100%
Anyone have a problem w/ X3i battery
not charging to 100% ? ..

I left it to charge over night, and when
I woke up this morning, my battery
was only at 99% .. later after using it
for a while, (used it down to 60%)
I let it charge again and again it only
charged to 99% . this is using the power
cord and the lil adapter thing, not the cradle
Anyone else experience this?

I have noticed the same thing. I have changed my X3i using both the cradle and the adapter. Either way the battery level tops out at 99%.

I seem to recall reading a review that mentions the same problem.

Sounds like a software issue to me, but that's just a guess. If so, then maybe Dell will release a patch for it in the near future?

I think I read in a review of the X3 that it only charges to 99%. Only minor!

Mine sometimes reads 100 %, but not always. I also notice the readings change up and down a lot even when not on charge. I don't think the battery reading is very accurate on these. This would most likely be a software fixable issue.

You might want to do a soft reset to see if it jumps up to 100%.

A quote from the CNET Review of the X3

"It also has some of the same quirks of its more powerful brothers: the system stops charging at 99 percent, and--like Windows Mobile 2003 devices from other manufacturers--when it hits 14 percent, the video player stops working."

Well I woke up this morning to find my X3i reads 100% full charge. Previously it would only get up to 97 or 98%. I dunno what made the difference On the other hand, my backup battery is hovering steady at 80% charge. Anybody else get a better charge on their backup battery?

According to Resco system information, both main and backup batts are at 100%

Wait, I use it for under a minute, and its down to 98%, this is with brightness way down, and wifi off....i dunno about this X3i it might have to go back sometime

the only truly trustworthy way to tell if the battery is fully charged is whether the green light is on. (the X3 does have a green/orange light, right?)

...because the battery meter on the X5 inflates the reading during a charge. if your battery is charging and the orange light is on (indicating charge in progress), and you remove the power source, the battery reading is liable to fall several percent over the course of a few minutes until it reaches the true battery level.

in any case, its the battery's performance in real-world usage that matters....

Pssst. Don't tell Dell it has an orange light or they might put it on top with the WiFi wart so it can look like a tow truck as well as a police car.

Yes, and my battery usage with WiFi and PIM functions were not that bad as long as I did not keep looking at the battery meter. I used the thing as much as I wanted and still ended up with enough charge at the end of the day.

IMHO, not great battery life, but usable.

I really suspect a patch later to make that battery meter a little less sensitive and to fudge the calibration more towards 100%.

If the 3rd party battery manufacturers or PPC Techs would come up with a little boost to the standard battery, that would be nice too.

Has anyone looked at what processes might be running? I seem to recall a model of Ipaq or two that had an OEM process running that made a major impact on battery life so most prevented it from starting up and improved the battery life???
