Soft Reset:

There's nothing wrong with a soft reset. It's basically the PPC equivalent of rebooting your desktop computer.

Just like with a regular PC, when you install software the installer often alerts you that "your device must be restarted." Only having your Jornada for 2 days, you've likely not encounted many software installs.....or at least not installs of any software that uses your system resources.

Other than software installation, you will find yourself having to soft reset occasionally if your PPC ever freezes. There's no getting away from this....it's not just an Axim thing, or iPaq thing, or Palm thing. All PDAs (or computers in general) tend to freeze up every now and then. If you are a power-user, you might be having to reset every day or two. Or if you are just an average user, you might go months in between resets.

Hard Reset:

A hard reset is only done when/if you decide to restore the unit back to factory settings. Note that this erases all data/software that is on your PPC.

The uninstall routine requires a soft reset. It even ends with a screen to do so in order to finish removal. Some desktop software (non PPC) also requires a reboot to finish installation.

BTW: Some of my old, old computers (desktops, etc) rarely needed resetting, but that doesn't mean I would keep using their out dated technology forever.

it could the file you are trying to install. not the actual program, but just a corrupted copy of it. have you tried to download it again?
I had tried another copy of the program and that was when the lockup occurred (unrelated to it being another copy). Additionally, it is the same copy that is running fine now.
