Do I win a prize for first to kill an X3i?
Well, the X3i managed to die on me. It did not come back up affter a soft reset..... Still has a pulse. Don't know. I will work on it after class and post details here.

Am I the first? Do I win a prize?

It is working now. I had to take the battery out and let the backup drain for about an hour. When I put the main battery back in, it was hard reset, but functional.

What I was doing that caused the problem was installing and uninstalling a program.

I don't know what we are going to do with him! I think we should call the ASPCPPC (The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Pocket PC)

Zee program was Nyditot version 3.22

I may have started the problem because I tried to install it into built in storage (which I try to keep all the daily useful programs in). Anyway, it would not uninstall. I managed to get it to uninstalled. Installed it to default location and it automatically went to storage again. I then was attempting to uninstall it again when the Axim locked up. The remove programs dialog for the program was instructing me to now reset the device, so I did. The Axe never rebooted. Just a black screen and no backlight or WiFi flashing. I tried everything and I could not get it to respond. So, as I said, I took out the main battery and let the backup battery drain down for about an hour.

After all this, I tried to install the program again using default location and it messed up again by installing into storage from which it will not run but no reboot problems. I was able to remove it this time and then installed it and forced it to main memory. It is now working.

Two reasons for the smiley...

1) I am in the magic 30 day window during which I put any device through the most use I can to make sure it will work for me in the long run. If not, I can return it.

2) I kind of figured that a drain down would restore the beastie to it's old factory self.

LOL, one already almost died? Haha.

What were you doing a soft reset for anyways? I have had my Jornada for 2 days, and have never done a soft or hard reset, and don't plan on it.

i'd be throwing a tantrum like a two year old if mine had done that to me.

it could the file you are trying to install. not the actual program, but just a corrupted copy of it. have you tried to download it again?
