buzzing sound in Axim X3i, is this normal?
I just got my new Axim X3i (w/ the integrated Wi-Fi), and like this pda. But there is a problem that really needs a solution. This X3i has continuously buzzing sound. Although it's not too loud, I can definitely hear it in a quite room. Or if I put it close to my ear, I can hear the buzzing sound even in the noise place.

I'm not sure if this buzzing noise only happens to my pda? Or it just happens to Axim X3i, but not the the X3 or Advanced X3? Please post your finding. Not sure should I return this device, or request Dell to fix the buzzing noise problem?

it's the sound of the backlight. the X5 makes a similar sound, but honestly I never ever notice it. the only way i could hear it is if i hold it up to my ear. even in a quiet room it's almost impossible for me to detect.

That’s funny because my axim x3i is also giving a buzzing noise, and it started two days ago even though I had my axim for about a week. But I really didn’t care because there sending me a replacement unit cuz, my x3i isn’t accepting any SD card’s. But if I was in your place I would definitely request a replacement unit and if they don’t agree I would just return you’re axim, and you have 30 days to do that, because the buzzing noise is giving me a headache, and is extremely annoying.

My X5 makes a similar sound. It is possible that the sound could be the processor.

Thanks all for posting, I'll go to Best Buy to check whether other brand pdas have the same issue. Then will call DELL tech service, they at least should tell me why the buzzing noise comes out, then they should take action to fix it, atleast for future.
I'll post details later. Thx.

Did you ever notice that on other devices? I'm using a Dell laptop now and it makes a high pitched noice that changes with the screen images. It's different from the fan and HD sounds.
I can only hear it when it's really quiet though.
I also had a Sony Clie that did that. Lots of people on the cliesource boards complained about their UX50's making that high pitched noise. Is it going to be an industry wide "feature?"
