Using a linksys wireless router.
That is not correct.

My Netgear MR814v2 does not broadcast SSID, but still I am able to cnnect

Just got my X3i today. It has been nothing but one big headache trying to get it to link wirelessly. Every once in awhile it just works - I've changed nothing.

Very frustrating.

It's especially a pain when it finds more than just your AP/Router. I also noticed that I can only connect to a broadcasting SSID Router.

Damn. Got the same problem. Got 2 Axims x3i on Wednesday, one for my brother, one for me. His is just working fine with our DLink 614 Access Point, mine doesn't. Same problem. Hitting the "Conect" button in the Profiles don't get it. Just saying "Conecting", then turns back to "Availible".
The Axim from my brother just connects fine, allways, without problem. So it IS the Axim, not the Access Point.

Greetings

also access point compatibility issue
I have had good success connecting to a D link and a Netgear access point but have had problems with a D link repeater. The D-link AP is 802.11b and 64-bit encryption with advertised SSID. The Netgear is a new b/g AP set up for 128-bit and SSID. I don't have control of the repeater, so I'm not positive about its setup. I've tried every combination of setup parameters on my X3i but can't get an IP address assignment from the repeater, which is reportedly set up as a wireless router.

I suspect compatibility issues exist with certain access points or their configurations for X3i models that seem to work fine in addition to the apparent differences in X3i's.

hmm-- i've had the same experience with my girlfriend's X3i-- it doesn't like the idea of connecting to my NetGear 814v2, but my axim x5 w/dlink wifi card will connect no matter what......my broadcast IS disabled, however.... who knows. it's a pain.

Hey guys! It's awesome to find a site all about my Axim! Glad to join. Anyways here's one of my problems: I just got a 3Xi and am trying to connect to my Belkin Wireless 802.11b with no SSID broadcast and a 128-bit WEP. It works fine, and then sometimes it doesnt connect. I had similar problems as in previous posts in which I keep on getting the neighbor's network, but not my own. But there is one thing that I had that people have not yet said - that is - sometimes my Wireless Antenna beacon blinks rapidly for a prolong amount of time, and when I goto Dell WLAN Utiility, the Status says - "associating" but with no network name and under "Site Survey" no networks are shown. I'm concerned about my Axim, since it's a brand new PocketPC. Does anyone know about this problem? And are there news that Dell ships some defective Axim 3Xi's?

Neighboring access point
you might try changing the channel your access point is using if you are having problems with a neighboring access point that uses the same channel. I found that helped with my home setup when the site survey detected an access point from a neighbor's unit on the same channel and I couldn't connect to my own.

alright-- i messed around with the x3i, and I found a workaround for it.

what i did is set a profile with the WAP disabled on my router, and i set the SSID And everything in the wlan utility on the axim, added the wep key and whatnot, and when i enabled the WAP again, it worked fine. ssid disabled, 128 bit WEP
