What is backup battery?
Just got my Axim3i today. Have not yet been able to use - cos the battery doesn't seem to be charging fully. Will leave to charge overnight and see. However, it was delivered with only one battery. Were there supposed to be 2 - i.e. with a spare backup battery?
TIA

You only get one battery ... unless you pay extra. The "backup" battery that is refered to often is a "watch" battery that is only to save your information if the main battery goes dead.

The battery should take about 4 hours to charge, if you leave overnight you will be ready to go in the AM.

Actually, the backup battery in the X3 is an internal (rechargeable) battery. It recharges the same as your main battery.

Some users have noticed that the backup battery takes a really long time to charge on the first charge. So if it still doesn't show it as being charged, just leave the Axim charging all day.....and it will finally get there. After that, it should charge with ease.

Thanks. It has been charging for 15 hours now and I still get a frozen align screen and cannot go on to the next step! What is confusing is that the Axim3 shows a green light status in the cradle, but as soon as I take it out and try to set up, it goes back to Amber light status. I hope this is just a case of needing to charge more and not a case of a faulty battery or faulty software....:

It is normal for the amber light to come back on when you remove the Axim from the cradle and use it, even for a few moments. It will start the charging process again to make up for the use it has had. On the align screen, it is not allowing you to tap on the crosses and follow them around the screen?

I have another thought to your problem. Are you using a screen protector? Some protectors, particularly the Dell brand, causes screen freezes. If you are using one, remove it and see if you can proceed with your screen alignment.

Thanks for your suggestions. I don't have a screen protector. I can tap on the cross on the align screen. It moves around then stops, as it is supposed to do. However, after that nothing else happens and none of the buttons work.

I just called Dell. They think there is something wrong with the PDA. They had me do a hard reset and I still had the same problem. When I finally called the PDA had charged for around 20 hours. The technician doesn't think it is a battery problem, so they are sending me a new unit.... !!!

Sorry for your bad luck. You will get your new one soon. I'm sure you will like it when you get one that works.
