X3i & unrecognized SanDisk 256 AR0308NC
Please help...

My new X3i (received yesterday) does not recognize this card.
Start-settings-about shows expansion slot not in use.
CNETx Flash format does hardware detection and "No storage card detected" My toshiba laptop SD slot recognizes/copies/deletes from this card without difficulty.

Here's what I've tried:

1. Format via Toshiba format utlity
2. Format via Windows XP format both FAT32 and FAT
3. Tried with lock off
4. Tried with lock on

Do I have to turn something on in WM2003 or X3i in order to use the expansion slot, or do I just plug it in?
Is this the infamous Sandisk or does my X3i have to go back?

Thanks in advance.

normally even bad sandisk SD is recognized by the Axim. this sounds like you got one of the dud SD slots (others have reported SD slots that wouldn't recognize even panasonic-type cards), and I recommend calling tech support and asking for a replacement.

try to call at a non-peak time...i.e. sometime other than evening.

oh yeah, no you don';t have to turn anything on for a PPC to recognize a memory card--it is automatic.

Thanks for the rapid response.

Tried 3 manufacturers (Lexar, Sandisk, generic) this morning at Future Shop...no dice.

Called Dell. Dud slot as you say.
They said I should receive a replacement tomorrow?!?

Let's hope.

Hey fddc,
Did you get it the next day as they said? My replacement took 2 weeks. I live in Vancouver, BC.

How did you get to try SD cards on your X3 at Futureshop? Did you just ask if they had the various brands laying around and they let you pop thme in to try?

I'm using an older 8mb Pansonic MMC card and it work great, it's just too bad it's only 8mb!

If you dont see a replacement soon, call dell again and ask about the status.

You'll probably want to read about what happened to me when I tried to get mine replaced...
