Painfully slow synchronization
I've noticed that the synchronization function with my X3 is much slower than with my X5, and seems to be getting slower. I've watched it work for 1/2 hour, without completing.

Judging from the Activesync indicator screen, the "files" folder is where the problem is (I've got about 20 files, totaling about 5 mb). The slowness occurs when I sync my work machine, as well as my home machine, so I don't think the problem is with the computer or USB connection.

Any suggestions?

have you tried upgrading to the new version of activsync on both computers? do you have a virus scan program running that is set to scan the axim with you sync? mcafee will scan your PPC when you put it in the cradle and that will slow things down quite a bit.

you may have a software issue that would require a hard reset to put right.

if you find a solution please post it.

I have a question related to this.

What keeps me wondering right now is the question if the Axim cradle is USB 2.0. I cannot find it anywhere, and my USB 2.0 slots are not working for some reason, so I cannot test it. IF it is USB 2.0 I guess syncing would go a lot faster...

I wish the cradle was 2.0....but unfortunately it's not. Hopefully they will come out with something compatible with usb 2.0

quite frankly AS has yet to take full advantage of USB 1.1.

Similiar problem here. My axim syncs fine until the "files" folder. Gets to "2 seconds" remaining and then freezes up, along with the Active sync on my PC. Tried an Axim soft reset and rebooted the PC. Same problem exists. Frustrated, so I removed the files from my sync option and do it manually dag/drop.

Anyone have any ideas?

Just a little question, but how long does it take to move 1 meg via Active Sync vs. drag-and-drop using the USB cradle?

The X3 draws more power from the USB port than the X5 did. If it bogs down when you're tranfering files then more often than not the only resolution is to get a powered USB hub.

Thanks s0nn46a13 - The powered usb hyb did it for me!

I was getting really slow (like worse than floppy disk slow) xfers no matter whether i used d&d or synched. Now (at least d&d) works normally (ie for USB 1.1) havn't tried sync yet.

PS - As a newbie to Axim - i'd like to say thanks - this site ROCKS!
