Yellow Screen on Dell Axim X3i
I got my unit about a week ago. At first I was astonished with brilliance of it, colours looked very radiant, even on low brightness. However, in a few days I started noticing that if you set brightness anywhere below medium level, white doesnt look exactly white - its looks rather newsprint-white, like a mix of white, grey and slightly yellowish... I tried hard-resetting the PDA but that had no effect.
Does anyone have a similar problem?

Yikes... I have not seen this yet on an X3i. Indeed, I would not have expected it with the screen so bright. Washed out colors is what I was expecting to be the first screen problem.

I would watch this one very closely as you may have a defective X3.

Definately get some more input from X3 users here before deciding.

I am holding the X5 and X3i side-by-side as we speak. The screen on the X3i has the same "whites" as they X5 does (at about the same screen brightness). Both look a fairly clear white at max brightness, and as you lower the brightness white is one of the main colors that is affected. It gets to be a slightly more greyish tint. This is the same with virtually any PPC screen (or any screen for that matter).

Try it even with your PC monitor, and you'll likely notice that whites get a lot more greyish tint as you lower the brightness. This is simply because white is projected on the screen by mixing ALL colors together. By taking the brightness away, these colors will appear darker.....thus making whites appear darker/tinted.

That is a relief. I was hoping it would not suffer from the yellow tint like the HP1940. Thanks for the comparison

i ran the brightness through every setting on the bar and am not noticing any yellow tint. what type of lighting was used in the room when you noticed it? try another room with a different light source and see if it makes a difference.

I remember reading about that yellowish tint on the 1940 in every other review on the web. I borrowed a friend's 1940 and tilted it. Sure enough, there was the yellow tint. I did the same with my x3i, and I didn't notice anything strange about the color.
