Lets get all the WiFi issues listed
Hey guys, I want to get a 3Xi but I read some of the problems on here about the WiFi and thats a big reason why I was going to get this PDA. So lets hear what the issues are and if there are any fixes for them. If there are too many I just might get another pda and get a orinoco wireless card. I just don't want any difficulties connecting to any network I may be at.

The wireless on my X3i has worked flawlessly and with better range than my X5/WCF12 combo.

I've heard people had issues though if the wireless router/access point isn't broadcasting a ssid. Or that it has issues with 802.11g routers/access points?

I have mine set for not broadcasting SSID, but I have the Wi-Fi cards power saving mode turned off. Connects every time.

Same here. I have done countless number of hard resets just to get it working again. The problem is that I would establish a good connection, then after about 30-45 minutes, the connection would fade and I'd have to rescan or renew IP just to re-connect. However, this wouldn't work all the time and sometimes I'd have to do a soft reset or at least turn wireless on and off. At the worse times, it would be unable to detect my IP and lose my wep settings altogether. No matter what I would try (e.g., manually enter IP or delete profile), it would not reconnect. That is when I'd have to do a hard reset and then have it re-detect my signal from scratch. BTW, my SSID is broadcasted and my power save is off.

I am not sure if it's a hardware of software problem. My router is the Netgear 814 which has worked flawlessly with my X5 using a Linksys card. However, when I tried using my brother in law's X3i with the same router, both devices had the same problem with a fading connection. It could be that we both have dud units, I don't know...

This is strange, I am using a Linksys router and have NO problems. Maybe we should get a consensus, of what routers people that are having problems are using! Could there be a conflict with certain routers?

P.S. PLEASE MENTION WHICH ROUTER YOU ARE USING!

Good point. I just did a search and found this thread which may suggest a router factor in all of this. Ironically, I'm now on the phone with Dell arranging my replacement.

There is something I did yesterday that has made my Wi-Fi experence great. I didn't have problems connecting, but I did have problems when someone was on the 2.4 GHz phone. So I set up my router for channel 11. Now that channel mite not be good for everyone, so try different combinations. I am sure that 2.4 GHz phones play into the connection problems also.

I understand that, but it seems that certain routers and possibly the phones effect different users. In my circumstance the router was not the problem, it was the power save mode of the Dell. And at night when people used the phones, I had a weak signal. It is more a router problem then a Axim problem.

Now I have seen that people with the Linksys have been able to shut off SSID broadcast and still connect. While others using different routers need it on.

Today I am installing my signal booster for my router, this will increase my signal power throughout the house. With it I can reach a long distance from my house to my backyard. My router is in the basement surrounded by concrete walls, and a metal grid ceiling. When I am on the top floor I get a weak signal, especially when someone is on the phone. With the signal booster back on I get a 100% signal on the top floor, and as far as 1000' away.

Sorry joelw135, I didn't mean to imply that your theory was not valid...I was just complaining about my own situation

I agree with you that it is probably some combination of factors affecting the signal and most likely not the Axim itself.

Gigi,

Your situation represents my problem exactly. Post if you solve it. My WAP is a D-link DI-614+ with latest firmware.
Try almost everything I can think up, someone need to setup a page to collect information and solve this problem, too many people have this Wi-Fi issue.
