Wifi card compatibility (Wardriving)
Hi!

Just got myself a X3i and I was looking forward to do some warwalking with the builtin wi-fi. The Dell manager is not too bad, but I wanted to you use something more powerful, namely Pocketwarrior or ministumbler.

However, I found out that the built in card's driver doesn't seem to be compatible with neither of those apps! I was lead into believing that the Intersil Reference driver could solve my problem but ran into two issues:

-The driver is not free anymore and nowhere to be found
-I am not even sure that this would be a good solution

Any clues on any of this? If some1 has this driver, could they kindly email it to me?

TIA!

I found a link a while back on the Dell forums for the Intersil drivers someone had posted on their own site, can't remember it right now. MiniStumbler, in it's current version release, only supports cards based on the Hermes chipset so you're screwed there. Pocketwarrior requires a Prism based card. I would suggest trying Airscanner but it will only work w/PPC2002. The trial version of Pocket WiNC may work, not sure though.

Pocket WinC seems to work with the x3i's built in WiFi. Of the programs that I've tested, it's the only one that works, at least right out of the box.

That being said, the only part that seems to work is detecting hotspots. I've never been able to connect to a hotspot via Pocket WinC, I have to close WinC and connect via the built in WiFi manager. I don't know if there's something else I should do to make it work more fully.

As far as I can tell, there are no forums dedicated to WinC, and I'm not planning on buying the software if it doesn't do much more than the Dell Site Survey tool.

Did you select your card type in the options?

I don't see anyplace to select a card in the options window (File -> Options), using pocketWiNc v1.3 build 952.

What is the Dell site survey tool? Is it specific to the X3i?

Sorry, you're right. I must have been thinking of an old version of PocketWarrior.
