Help! My Axim x3i is dead two weeks old!!
My axim locked up this morning. The hard buttons would work but the screen input would do nothing. Finally I soft reset and same thing happened. Then I do a hard reset and i cannot get past the first setup screen that says "Tap the screen to set up your Pocket PC"
I have not installed any new software in two days and worked perfectly this morning and last night.

What to do??????

Call Dell and get a replacement. Dell Canada will get one out within 2 weeks.

Well they are going to send one out in two business days. However the tech support here in Canada told me to keep the new unit for at least two days and test it as they have been having problems with replacement units. He told me that some of the replacements are re-furbs that sometimes do not make it to the re-furb process, hence some customers are getting a supposed replacement that is already broken.
As far as I know I am entitled to a brand new replacement unit so if it is a re-furb I will have a decision to make.

goodness....a re-furb that may or may not have been through the re-furb process? That would be an easy decision to make.

yes the decision to send it back would be any easy one but how many times would i have to go thru that process, in my opinion one time is one time too many.

Ouch, does Dell US now have this policy too, now? It used to be if you had your Axim less than 30 days you'd get a brand new one to replace it.

If they send you a refurb and you're within 30 days just return it for a refund.

I would be willing to go through the process once.
As a consumer, I do realize that there is going to be the potential of getting a lemon with, unfortunately, anything you buy these days. But, to have a CSR tell you that the refurbs may not have gone through the refurb process is where I'd put my foot down.

What I meant by my comment that the 'decision would be an easy one' really meant that if Dell were to ship you a non working refurb because it didn't go through the refurb process (or did and was still screwed up), what I meant was the decision would be an easy one to make (to take my $$ elsewhere). Sorry, no, I wasn't clear on that in my above post.

Like I said, I'd be willing to go through the process once and give them the opportunity to correct the problem. Then, take it from there.

I do not have to send back yet. I should get the replacement tomorrow and then was told to keep my old one until I was sure the replacement was working correctly.

Janine,
that is exactly what i will do. if it is a refurb i will ask for a refund and buy a competative product. but hopefully this will not be the case.

Good news!
Dell shipped me a brand new Axim in 11/2 days. It is up and working perfectly. I now must send back the defective on. Looks like it is a digitizer issue as the ppc is not recieving any input from the stylus althought the buttons still work. Multiple hard resets did not solve the problem.
Dell's service has be amazing to say the least.

glad to hear that things worked out for you. On a side note. I have heard of this problem with screen protectors that sometimes press on what part of the screen harder then others which makes the ax thing theres a point of contact always in one spot.
