ActiveSync Problem
I just got my dell axim x3 and I am having major problems with ActiveSync. It installs fine then I reset and nothing came up so I clicked on the program. It doesn’t let you click on anything else except get connected. So I clicked that and at the top it has Cannot Detect Device. It has both the COM ports are fine and the usb is available. But it still will not connect. Can any one help me out on this?

I assume you are attempting to connect through your cradle. Do you have any firewalls installed? AS has issues with ZoneAlarm in particular but others, including the built-in firewall with WinXP can block the connection.

If this might pertain to you, do a search here for firewall and you should find the settings you need to change to allow access.

I had the same problem because my Palm Hotsync Software took over the port. If you have this software running, stop it & see if it works.
Regards.

I seem to be having the same problem..

I've performed a hard reset, then after reconnecting my x3 to the sync cable, activesync prompted me to delete the partnership.

After I did that, I am still NOT able to contact my X3i.. very frustrating.

I'm starting to think that I have a defective X3i.

If you haven't installed the latest version of ActiveSync, 3.7.1, give that a try to see if it helps.

What kind of computer do you have? Is it a dell? Ive seen Dell laptops get a little confused on how many USB Host controllers that they have. Even with the latest plug and pray software.

Is there any viable alternative to Active Sync? Active Sync is getting quite horrendous.

Getting? I would think there's a decent market for an activesync alternative. I know I'd jump on it.

(By the way, welcome to aximsite, Sean Su!)

Thanks!

I already have a 802.11b wireless cards for my PDA's. I want to be able to sync via wireless to such services like Vindigo. I'm glad that Avantgo does it already and its pretty fast.

There has to be a service that allows me to sync all of my data while online. And if I want to sync my desktop, it should sync via this service too.

I'm tired of having to be "tethered weekly/daily" to my desktop. I thought a PDA was supposed to be independent! Save us Dell! And Microsoft!

It would be nice but I would not hold hope that it would happen. Since Avantgo, Vindigo and M$ Activesync are all different apps and services as well as being supported separately would be very difficult to come up with a service to do everything. Can't blame you for wishing it though....

True, but I support the way AvantGo allows me to sync as long as I'm online. I dont see why Vindigo can't do the same. However there would probably need some server services running on your desktop to be able to sync to it remotely over the internet. Plus that would imply broadband.

Perhaps there will be some way of fooling the pdas into thinking they were connected physically to the desktop or a server. Its silly that I have to check my mail by placing my pda onto the cradle rather than being able to check it while online. Its also silly that, more often than not, I have to install apps using my desktop. I prefer downloading the file using my PDA and running it there.

If Microsoft made "ActiveSync Online" I'd gladly pay for it! (But not as buggy and problematic as it is now please)

Have you tried looking in Device Manager when the Axim is in the cradle? There should be a category named "Microsoft CE USB Devices" with an entry for "Dell Axim USB Sync". The entry will disappear when the Axim is removed from the cradle.

Also having a problem

Everything has been working great for ~2wks, but as of about an hour ago when I stick the X3 into the cradle activesync pops up, says 'connecting...' then stops and says not connected.

Tried updating to 3.7.1 but it didn't help.

Hope this isn't a big deal
