PLEASE HELP - Axim X3 Bios Image
I hope someone can help me, I have flashed my bios on my brand new axim x3 and I did not make a backup - and I have screwed it up - I know I am an idiot.

Does anyone have an image for an X3 ?? If they do please can you let me know or tell me where I can get it from.

Thanks

Call Dell. Aximsite rules do not allow sharing of this type. I'm curious, how did you flash your ROM?

Sorry, did not realise request was not allowed. I upgraded my dell axim X3 with an X5 bios by mistake (do not ask how I did this as it is a long story) via the SD card but now I need a clean X3 bios so I may return it to its original state.

Do you think that Dell would provide this - I know they have one on their site for X5 but nothing for X3 so I am not sure if they would provide this.

I still don't know how you could have done this. I would think an incorrect ROM would not "take," especially from an SD card. Have you tried a hard reset on your machine? It may be that you have scrambled the files and a hard reset will put your machine back into order. By the way, there is no X5 WM 2003 ROM on Dell's site for download.

Have you tried an X3 rom update?

i agree with james that you should call Dell.

but how you managed to use an x5 rom is beyond me.

especially since the x3 comes with the latestt os..

I have definitely put the X5 rom on it - i went through the correct process but used the wrong rom version. I do not think Dell will give me the new version X3 rom as I do not need an update I need a clean image of one !!

In the diagnistics it even shows the X3 as an X5 !!! This is why I am 100% sure it has updated the rom

But the update is the full rom generally, at least thats the way it
was with the x5s, i have not done any of the x3 updates.

I am curious to as how you got an X5 rom, if its just an
X5 rom update available from Dells website,
then why cant you do the same thing with an X3 rom update
available from dells website?

If it was an X5 ROM update from Dell's website, it shouldn't have allowed you to install it anyhow. It is built-in to the installer to make sure that you have a correct current ROM (that is updateable by the ROM update) on your Axim, before it will even let you begin the installation of the ROM update.

I can't imagine what has happened here. None of this makes any logical sense. You will need to contact Dell if you have an unusable Axim, and see if they can repair your ROM. I don't know if that situation is under warranty, though.

I'm guessing the thread starter was experimenting with the now famous bootstrap loader option:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...ghlight=loader

Unfortunately, without an image of the X3s OS, I think he's in a bad way . . .

Will probably have to wait for an X3 OS upgrade, or send it back to DELL with some sort of creative explanation.

KPDUTY is correct - I was playing about with it but I screwed it up with the X5 rom version. I found out that the Dell Axim X3 Wireless version has a dual chip in it - it has a wireless chip as well as a bluetooth chip however because they did ot have a licence they never turned it on - if you open the machine and check this it is clear that the above is true but to get the bluetoth to work you need to do an update which is what I was working on.

You sure about that? Why go though the hassle of engineering the chip and not charging extra for it?

If this is really true then please send us some pics confirming the presence of the transmitter in the X3i. It is very possible that our Axims are equipped but it isnt likely. Dell likes to cut costs wherever possible and TRUST me, designing and producing bluetooth chipsets/transcievers isnt cheap by any means.

be careful in starting (if) any false rumor here, that might get you into more troubles (instead of help and sympathy) than what you've already got with your weird experiment.

How do I attach a pic on this forum ?

For anyone that has the wireless version look at the top transmitter (aerial for the wireless LAN) and you will see two symbols - one for the wireless LAN and one for the Bluetooth - anyone that know anything about bluetooth will know the official bluetooth symbol and that is on the aerial of the receiver.

The only reason it has not been enabled is because Dell did not have the licence to previous to release - they thought they were too clever and too large so they would get it at a click of their fingers, however like everyone else they had to wait their turn ! - this is not a rumour as the previous post suggested it is a FACT.
