USB access denied?

I just got my nice shiny new Axim X3i in the mail, charged it, then put it in the cradle, and windows detected it and when it was installing the drivers it gave me this error.

I have tried switching ports, reinstalling the drivers, and I uninstalled/installed my USB controller. And now my old Toshiba (which worked before I pluged in my X3) is giving me the same error.

So I though it was a problem with the axim, but I took it over to a friends house and he has the same PDA and it worked just fine.

Any one have any suggestions?
I'm getting ready to just format and reinstall windows.

Hello, I got this very same error last night also! Until yesterday, I was sync-ing to two different machines (work and home) both running ActiveSync 3.7.1 on WIN 2K Pro w/SP4. Both machines have now given me the same error.

I have also noted that in the Device Manager for both systems, I have the "yellow excalamation mark" on one of the USB entries.

I too have removed and reinstalled ActiveSync on my workstations. I have uninstalled my USB devices and rebooted. They are found and installed correctly.

I hook up the X3i and nothing! Any ideas?

Are you logged in to your computer as an Administrator? You'll need to be in order to install hardware.

Thanks JSands. I was logged in as Admin so that wasn't it but I will share this with you...if you mess with it long enough, you will eventually figure it out! I got it fixed a little while ago and this seems to be what did it...

With the Ax connected for sync, while it was ON, I performed a "soft" reset. Doing this launced the New Hardware Wizard on my PC and this time, when it loaded the drivers, it listed the Axim device correctly! The drivers installed successfully and the Active Sync started up normally. Syncs just fine now.

Don't know if this will work for anyone else but it did the trick for me. Hope this will help somebody else out there.

I've had some probs with USB - axim syncs fine first time I put it in cradle, but if a while later I try and force another sync it doesn't always work. The only way I can get USB to recognise it is to go to My COmputer, properties then go to 'device manager' and right- click on usb to force it to scan for hardware changes - then it works ok - for a while!!!

I had some troubles w/ USB/activesynch/drivers once to. Very first time I ever did get it to synch no prob. (I even run it on NT!!). But everyonce in a while my comp. wont recognize it. It has nothing to do with drivers either. It has to do with turning desktop on when axim is on first, in cradle and syched w/ usb. When this happens (which is alot for me) I backup data to storage card and do a hard reset on axim. No probs. Try this and restore your data afterwards next time.
