Need help with strange WiFi problem
I posted THIS POST about the problems I was having getting my x3i to connect to my WiFi network. Well, I called Dell last night and we went through some tests and it still did not work. He wanted me to run the Dell diagnostic program but I didn't have it loaded and didn't have a way to sync at the time. Today I got the diagnostic utility to run and everything looked OK so I decided I would try one last time to access the internet. IT CONNECTED (but is seems slow compared w/ my x5) I then tried to use Activesync via WiFi... Didn't work. I went to my computer to double check the settings in Activesync and I remembered that I powered my PC down last night. As soon as I turned my PC on my WiFi on my x3i died... It couldn't even find my router. I powered down my PC and then the WiFi on my Axim was OK again (but again slow) My PC is connected directly to the router (WRT54G) with a CAT-5 cable. It appears that I can use my laptop and Axim w/ my PC off. When I try to ping the router w/ my PC off I get erratic results sometimes I lose packets other times I do not. Does anyone know what the heck is going on??

not to insult your intelligence but is the PPC and PC using the same IP?

If you are using DHCP, assign a static IP in your range to the PPC and see if that clears anything up for you.

Not insulted at all. I tried using a static IP and it still did not work. I think the problem is with my x3i. The signal strength is all over the place even when I set the axim next to my router. I have been talking to Dell. They are "working on finding a solution" They are supposed to call me back on Monday...

I had a similar problem when I first used wifi with my x5. It ended up that my DHCP wasn't set to accept enough incoming connections. I changed it from 4 connections, to 5 and all is now well. Just trying to throw some ideas your way.
