wifi annoyance
hey everyone! for some reason the wifi on my x3i has "issues" connecting to my linksys wireless g router. it will connect, but every time i turn off my ax and then power it up again, i have to disable then reenable the wifi receiver to connect again. this doesn't happen when i am using my linksys befw11s4 wireless b router. this problem just started this morning but it worked perfectly last night. i bought my ax new off ebay so do you even think dell will even talk to me? thanks in advance.

If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like ‘Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!’ and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, ‘That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice.’ Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

Possible "fix" for Axim / Router Annoyance
I believe I had the same problem with my Belkin WiFi and Axim x3i. I could get the Axim WiFi to work but when I shut it off (or if I disabled wireless) the router would "hang". I couldn't get any of my other systems to access the internet until I physcially reset the router (usually by going through a power cycle or a "hard" reset on the router). The router got messed up every time I used the Axim.

I have been using it regularly for 2 days now without any problems. It's working great but there's a sequence that I have to go through to get it to work:

TO START USING THE AXIM WIFI: Press the wireless enable/disable button on the lower right corner (to ENABLE wireless), then tap on the icon that appears in the lower right corner of the screen and select "WLAN Radio On". Start Pocket IE and surf.

TO STOP USING THE AXIM WIFI: Tap on the icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "WLAN Radio Off", then press the lower right button to DISABLE wireless.

I have been making sure that I keep following this "ENABLE WIRELESS - TURN WLAN RADIO ON - SURF - TURN WLAN RADIO OFF - DISABLE WIRELESS" routine and it's been working great. However, if I ever get it out of sequence I have to reset my router again.

I hope that helps. I don't know anything about WiFi and this might be a standard process I didn't know before. I was about the send the Axim back to Dell before I accidentally figured this out.

Yeah it works great with my linksys 802.11b router (mod befw11s4) but my freind who has a G router experiences connection issues when his router is set to assign IP numbers dynamicly. The issue does, however, appear related to the router and not the Axim. We think it has something to do with DCHP conflicts and default IPs. --Which is why the suggestion posted above corrects the problem -you turn of the IP broadcast before you turn on the transmitter. For some reason unknown to me, and IP conflict (duplicate IP) will crash a linksys router of any model.

You could try setting your Axim to use a static IP number for your home router connection. That might fix the issue. It seem to have for my freind.

I've had duplicate IPs assigned to devices when using a Linksys router before and it didn't crash. I don't think that's quite correct. One of the devices will report an error but I haven't seen it crash the router.

Thanks ike for me to this thread, I too was indeed seeing my Router crash when I was connecting from my Axim x3i. Very strange.

And i don't think it is related to Netgear or Linksys. Probably, it's the Axim. Because I connect from my laptop and it works fine.

Think we should all call Dell !

How very odd. I use my Axim x3i on both my home router (the linksys) and on a university campus that uses sysco (basically netgear for industry) routers. I never hang either of them. If it's not an IP problem then I have no further suggestions. Howard2k is correct that dupicate IPs wont cause a crash if the dupicate ips are on windows machines. If windows detects a duplicate IP on the nework it shuts down the IP broadcast and gives an error message to prevent network problems.

However, try connecting devices that do not have this failsafe, particularly other routers or gateways and the IP conflict causes a crash. -If the Axim X3i does not have a failsafe it would cause such a crash. But I have no idea wheather it does or not :-/

If you got it on ebay, I believe that you would have to get the warranty transfered to you from the original owner before they'll replace it. I'm not sure how to go about doing this, but someone else may know.

Here is the link:
http://support.dell.com/support/topi...n/tag_transfer

All you need is a first and last name from the original owner and the service tag and express service tag - under the battery.
