too dumb to live--repair question
I don't believe this. You know those little pins in the plug on the bottom of the Dell Axim X3? The ones used to power up the thing and transfer information?

Well, I'm too dumb to live. Some of mine are squished.

Where do I send this thing for repair?

**sigh**

you send it back to dell. they don't do repairs, though. they just replace the unit (if the situation is one in which the feel like they should).

Don't be so hard on yourself. If you take a look on this site you will see that others have also bent their pins as well.

The X3 has pins? That's wierd, the X5 doesn't have pins, it looks more like a little PCB card .. why would dell go from the card configuration, which is much more durable) to pins?! madness!

It is madness and I'm just sick about it.

I did a search for "pins" and saw that someone else had the same trouble. Dell replaced his with a new one--not a refurbished one.

I guess I'll give Dell a call and try to work this out.

Thanks, everyone!

Good luck with that, I've seen mixed stories about Dell support but if it's a clear cut case of a defect that wasn't your fault you should be OK.

If you look closely at the card, you'll notice that it has tiny pins on it. You have to look extremely close to see them though.

Both the X3 and X5 have them.

Good news
I just wanted to let you guys know that Dell will be sending me my new Axim on Wednesday. I explained what happened with the pins and the car charger. The service rep said they had several people call with the same problem.

He also said that some engineers were working on the synch pins to make them more sturdy. However, my new Axim x3 will have the same pins that my current one does. It's good news that they're working on it, though. Someone will benefit.

Dell is also sending me a new car charger, though I'm afraid to use it.

Thanks again for your help.

Diane

Correct phone numbers to call: For Consumer/Home User customer's technical support is 800-624-9896. For corporate/educational/military/govt./small business customers, call 877-459-7298.

When prompted by the phone system to enter in your express service code, enter it in....it's the 10-11 all numeric string of digits, not the 7 digit alpha-numeric service tag number. The Express Service code number should route your call to the correct technical support group that can assist you.

and for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE purchase complete care warranty coverage on the axim's. You drop the axim, and the screen cracks, or spill liquid on it, and the liquid damages the internal components, or any accidental oops, the standard parts only replacement warranty will not cover you. Period, end of story. Thus sayeth the tech support rep........ >:-{)}

Happy Friday folks. :-{)}

techguy is correct. Any defective Axim calls go to tech support. Customer Care does not care unless it is within 14 or 30 days from your invoice date - besides they will transfer you to tech support anyway. New Deli does serve up a bunch of bolognie or is that bologna?
