x3i and 256 sd card issue
I called dell's wonderful technical support, and have been told that the x3i is not compatible with 256 sd cards. they told me to purchase 2, 128 sd cards which i would, but i purposely bought a 256 card for obvious reasons, which they dont seem to understand why. i also asked why my x3i was not formatting when i went through the "hard" reset process. they asked me constantly if i had backed up any data, which i havent. i just love dell's customer service.

my post in a nut shell: don't expect much from dell's customer support.

if ANYONE has any updates on the software issue, please pm me. i am in dire need of a working pda.

My x3i works fine with a 256MB SD card. Why are you so convinced that it is the Axim? Is your card made by SanDisk? Do a search on this site, you will find several posts talking about SanDisk's SD card problems.

As for the Tech Support. It is the same with every company, sometimes your lucky and sometimes your not. It sounds like you got someone that doesn't know what they are talking about. Can you try another SD card? That will help you narrow down what the problem is.

that tech support worker needs to be retrained, or Dell make a big goof in the technical info they supplied the worker.

mine works with 256 cards just fine. even used a 512 card in it when i was in a store and it worked as well.

I have 256 cards and ordered a 512mb card. I think this is one of the posts that Dell should read. There is more missdirection by these idiots in India than ever. When I first received my Axim it wouldn't take a charge, so the tech tells me to hardreset the Axim. I said it worked with my friends battery, he says it is the software. I hung up and demanded to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor ordered me a new battery. Works fine. These people are not trained enougth in support, they spend more time with english diction training, than training on tech support.

only thing wrong with the tech support is that, they follow the "text-book" rules. they will tell you to do the same thing many times, and will still be convinced that you are not following the procedures properly. dell needs to hire tech's that actually know what the problem is, so that if one solution doesnt work, they can think of a new one. after 40 minutes of the phone with the tech support, they decided to send me a replacement. i asked for a replacement around 5 minutes into my call.

256 MB Memory Card
I have a 256MB Kingston SD card in my X3, not an X3i, and it works without any problems. The answer you received from a supposed tech support person seems very strange.

I just had the same problem with my new X3i.

The 256MB Sandisk SD card was working fine for 24 hours and then just stopped (Nothing was put on the card).
I contacted dell and they said that the Axim sometimes has problems recognizing 256MB SD cards... And that they would send me (2) 128MB SD cards.

She also reassured me that they are working on finding a solution for this problem.

Oh yeah, and that they have the same problem with the 512MB ones as well.

So basically anything over 128MB has a problem. Talk about a bunch of #$@^, as they sell 256+ on their site WITH the Axims. Obviously to make money, but if they have to keep replacing them, they would be losing money eventually.

A friend of mine pointed this out to me.
SD Card Listing

On the back of the SD card is the appropriate code to look up. Mine is listed as a bad card. Although there's only one 256 Sandisk SD card that works with the X3 apparently.
