Axim X3I Destroys 2 SD cards
I purchased my x3i a few months ago and never had a problem. Today I received a new 512mb Kingston SD card. I placed the new SD card in card reader all was working, then copied the info from my 256mb Lexar card. After copy noticed many files missing on 512mb card when placed in Axim. Removed 512mb card and placed it in card reader, no lite comes on placed 256mb in reader no lite. Both cards no longer work in X3I or in card reader. The Axim destroyed both. I called Dell who is sending a refurbished unit, and Kingston is sending a new 512mb card, and Lexar Media is sending a new 256mb after they receive there old card back. Boy am I pissed.

Why are you pissed? You're getting everything replaced!

Consider yourself very lucky. OK, so you'll be out the SD Slot for awhile.........the Axim itself still works OK, doesn't it? Electronics have been known to fail occasionally, ya know.

I understand your frustration with the situation, but you're gettin' out of this situation pretty well-off.

I understand what you are saying but the SD slot is what I need to do my job. With out it I am dead in the water. It will force me into getting another SD card, inorder to complete my project.

I just suffered the same fate and my X3 is less than a month old and it trashed a Lexar 256.

Dell won't send a replacement because I can't prove the card didn't go bad on its own. So now I have to get another card for a test. Dell support said they were having problems with 256 cards and suggested I use a 128.

Replacing the parts is beside the point. Dell should not be shipping a product that seems to have a high risk of failure plus the potential to destroy data.

If my X3 burns another SD card I'm going to be pissed because of the aggravation of waiting on another X3 + SD cards to be replaced.

On second thought if it does trash another card I'm going to get my money back.

The chances are it is the Axim that is bad, mine turned out to be the Axim not the cards.

I agree it's most likely the Axim.
I'll find out when I put another card in it after testing it on my desktop for several days.

I'm beginning to conclude that all PDAs have their own quirks and they never get fixed before the mfg. rolls out a new product line.

It is a Lexar256 card stamped Made in USA from Sam's Club.
It quit working in the Axim after 3 days.
To determine if the card was bad I purchased a Comp USA multi format card reader which did not recognize the media.

Lexar has given me an RMA to return the media. I'm going to buy one more 256 card and see if the X3 fries it.

From most of the posts I've seen and the response I received from Dell support, anything over 128mb is prone to have a problem.

Hi,
my 5 day old Axim X3i destroyed a new 256 MB SanDisk card.
I bought the card at the same date like the pda.
So i'm very frustrated.
